Mancini Racing still selling Yukon axles that are 3/8"-1/2" too long

-
Backing plates and drums change according to the brake width. The axle length does not change

I don't have direct experience with them but when I spoke with Cass (Dr. Diff) he said the portion of the axle from the bearing to the splines don't change but from the bearing retainer plate to the drum flange does.

yea cass is a great guy!

and 2x
Are those for stock A-body brake size? I talked to him about a year ago about some axles and at that time he said they would only work if you swap to the bigger brakes.

ha has them with green bearings and 3" studs, for powerlock 340 shipped. use b brakes and dont need to remove thing in diff

Man that's a real good price. I just looked on Moser's site and they want $345 for bare axles without shipping.

I had a set of the Dutchmans then bought a set of the Mosers, put them side by side i thought the fit and finish and just the over all look of the Mosers was much better..the Mosers are in my duster the Dutchmans were resold..

you mean for b bodys (2.5" from flange to housing) vs. a body (2" from flange to housing)??

Yup, that was also an issue.

Mancini is going to exchange them for a different set.....(for correct axles crosses fingers and toes ). Person I was in contact with was very helpful.

did i say it backwards?? ah geeze... yea what you wrote is what i ment:happy6:

That's what I thought after his post that said the thrust block has been removed so nothing should be stopping them from going all the way in, yet they stick out too far. The only other possibility is the axles are designed for wider brakes.

ONE last thing you can check. IF this is a POWER lock or a CONE sure grip they have 2 pieces to the side gear and cone. ARE THEY LINED UP! THE splines could have spun out od alignment...

CHECK this because it will be yourt 1/2" distance.

CHECK THIS.... Take care, Jim

Jim I think you've got the wrong person. I'm not the original poster and do not have a problem with a rearend/axles. That is good advice for the original poster though.

how much were they??

Just got the new replacement axles back from Mancini. I thought I had everything clear and on the table with Mancini, they were very helpfull and nice btw. And they send me another set of axles that arent right. I feel like crying. Bearing to axle hub is still 0.5" off, axle length is correct now. So theres now 0.5" less spline making contact inside rear chunk.

At about $65 a pop for return shipping, i'm not wasting n e more money on Mancini to get it right. Lesson learned, complete waste of time and money. Spend money elsewhere for axles.

:munky2:

Thanks for heads up, but i'm not gonna ship n e thing else. I'm gonna do what I should have done in the first place. Drop this crap off at machine shop and have them press them/machine them/do w/e is neccesary to specified dimensions and be done with it.

Spent a lil' time looking on forum. Dr. Diff is selling his stuff on Ebay. I'm going to return these axles to Mancini and give my business to Dr. Diff. Emailed him for his axle dimensions.

Hope it all works out for you. There are enough problems and confusion with A body axles and brakes, without having the people who are paid to know, getting it all screwed up too!

I just got a decent deal on Moser axles through Summit. I bought the BBP replacement axles ( MSR-M30CST-AB45 ), green bearings with retainers and gaskets, 1/2" X 3" studs, screwed or press in studs and bearings installed, for $301.85 plus $12.95 Handling fee, state tax if in Ohio, and FREE shipping.

A lot of guys race the replacement axles. Thanks to Mikedevore for clueing me in. The race axles are only 10% stronger, Moser will tell you that.

If at all possible try to buy parts from someone who specializes in their field.

Engine stuff from engine builders
trans stuff from trans builders
rear end stuff from differential builders etc.

Sometimes the KNOWLEDGE you get with the supplier is worth more than the discount you get from a all around performance parts seller.

This thread has shown that. :) Jim

UPDATE:

Axle issue fixed via an additional $306 at local machine shop. Distance is now correct.......or atleast matches the original axle dimensions. Lesson learned for sure. Everything is back together now and on the road. Short test drive last night.

Glad you have it together, but now you have like what $700.00 in a set of axles?

i bought a set from mancini last year for my a body ,talk about a confusing mess they are. i did convert to big bolt pattern and put on 2.5 brakes ,but my shafts wouldnt even go into the rear.they were splined sloppy.had to use emery cloth on them then they didnt drill the studs for me so had to take them somewhere spend another $60.so they told me i needed 28 inch length they were 1/2 inch short when they came.i went round and round with them,i wont buy a spark plug from them.

:angry4: lol

Holy crap I was about to swap my 71 over to BBP now im not sure if I want to go through all the trouble.
