I'm pretty excited about what I purchased lately!! I've been saving like mad, not eating lunch at work, drinking more water than anything, sitting at home doing nothing, all in the name of money. Well, its finally paying off!!
I just bought a 422 shortblock, with very little runtime on it. Forged crank, eagle h-beams, JE pistons. All balanced. Its in a 70' 340 block thats been bored, plate-honed, align-honed, lifter bores bushed, extensive oiling mods, main studs and a hughes girdle, moroso pan and pickup, cloyes tru roller chain...for less than the price of a stroker kit. Thats all I'll say about that LOL.
Just when I thought it couldn't get better, I stumbled on a set of Indy 360-1 CNC 245 heads. Complete, new valves, springs, retainers, locks, etc. They had been repaired by Indy, but were tested, etc and guaranteed to be good. I paid just a few hundred more for these than a brand new set of Edelbrocks would cost.
These will give me 11.5 to 1. I still think I'm gonna run the Lunati Voodoo solid roller with .585/.600 lift. I will be running the single plane Indy intake, Indy rockers, an 850 DP, and 1 3/4 hooker super comps. Trans is a 904, I'll be swapping to a manual VB, and a 3400 stall. I'm not sure about the gears yet, but I think it will be 3.91s.
Question is...what do you guys think of this combo? Would you do anything different? I'm pretty excited, I think it will be a quick car. Its all going in my 72' Dart.

Sounds awesome, I would think about 3.55 gears, not sure what your redline is going to be at. Sounds like it could take some high rpm's so 3.91 might be ok.

Now you better start saving up for gas money, lol

I keep trying NOT to think about the gas money lol. I was thinking of 3.55's, but I wasn't too sure they would match the cam rpm range and the heads. But, I guess that is alot of cubes. I have 3.23s now, I don't think they would work too well.

Those 3.23s would probably surprise you with that big motor.

I would try it, The stall converter will be a big help. Wheelspin--which you will have tons of--will get the rpm's up.

Just use 2nd gear more around town.

Sounds like it should make some serious power. I think I would go for the gear change.

I hope it makes some serious power! I'm used to it running mid 13's, so this will probably scare me! I think I'll try the 3.23's for now, and then see if I want to swap gears, etc. Kind of afraid of how much wheelspin it will have, only going to have 235/60-15 drag radials with ss springs. As soon as I get a chance, I'm gonna post some pics on here.
