Another option is to remove the upper column sleeve and gind off the shifter boss and gear indicator. Use some metal to metal filler or the fiberglass reinforced filler and fill the holes. Sand it smooth and a coat of paint and no one will know.
As stated above...and if you do this, you might as well pull out the complete column anyways, take it apart right down to the inner tubes and grind off the shifter levers. They look ugly in the engine compartment. :salute:
