As stated above...and if you do this, you might as well pull out the complete column anyways, take it apart right down to the inner tubes and grind off the shifter levers. They look ugly in the engine compartment. :salute:
I agree, I did this to mine and it looks great. It took me about 1-1/2 days to complete the job. Probably 4 hours to do the grinding and filing, and then a small amount of Bondo and primer/paint. Let it dry overnight and re-installed. I don't have a lot of "special" tools, I used a dremel tool and flat file for most of the work. I also lubricated the bearings, cleaned everything up, and added a Grant steering wheel at the same time. I was very happy with the results. I don't think I will ever worry about buying a factory column, it looks that nice.
