727 pan question

I have a 727 big block tranny and I was looking to change the pan on it from a factory little pan to a deep pan that is 2 1/4" deep.My question is do I have to change the filter to where it sets lower in the pan or can I leave it bolted right where it is now. I hear different stories.Thanks
 
I use a B&M deep pan but its close to 5 inches deep and yes I had to use a spacer to drop the filter to the bottom of the pan.

use a pan off a late model trans ( my diesel has one ) and also use the spacer to keep the filter in the fluid.
 
Any good aluminum pan you buy should already come with the filter extension, filter, gaskets, bolts and drain plug. I bought this one that increases oil volume by 2 quarts, installed no leaks. I doesn't make much sense to me to add an extra volume oil pan and not locate the filter close to the bottom to be able to utilize that extra volume.

can you buy the kit with the spacer separate. I am looking at buying a pan from an individual.Thanks

I do remember back when I was living in Auburn, there was a guy two doors down that owned a shiny black Roadrunner.

That car was fine, but he got the bug to add a deep pan, B&M comes to mind.

I am trying to remember if it was the engine or transmission,.... transmission I am pretty sure.

This guy was not a car guy,.......


I noticed the car sitting and not being used, so I asked what's up?

He added a deep pan but did not lower the pickup.

I never saw that car running again, back then, up there by Seattle everyone was out of work and just getting by.

I remember him saying that the transmission was a B&M, you guys would know better than me if B&M made an automatic that you bolt behind big block Mopar.

That was a nice car, straight as a pin, clean no leaks, beautiful rally wheels.

What an expensive fockup
