Can you use the Cal-Trac syetem with the Mopar Super Stock leaf springs? Do they make a set for the S/S springs? What effect will they have if you put them on S/S springs? I've heard some guys locally say you can't mix the two and I've heard you can use them. What does everyone else say?

I don't see why they wouldn't work with SS springs. I use cal tracs with a split mono leaf but the cal trac bars are just a better designed traction bar.

I'm hoping I can. I want to use Cal-Trac bars on my car. I already have a set S/S springs and don't want them to end up being a waste. I could always sell them but I would never get back what I paid for them. So I'm hoping I can use them.

According to most sources you shouldn't use cal tracks with SS springs. They are to stiff from what I understand.

So are the SS springs almost as good as a cal tracks? I know the cal tracks would work better than just leaf springs. But if the SS springs do a good enough job for what I'm looking to do then I won't spend the money for the cal tracks. I'm buliding a 408 stroker that will put around 10.70's to 10.80's 1/4 mile.

Not even close and I'm sure the guys that want to spout the MP chassis book will be in here to hit me with said book any minute. Cal Tracks will work better than SS springs on a car running those times.

Cal Tracks and SS springs work using different principles. Cal Tracks need a spring that basically soft and only holds the car up. SS springs work on the idea of a very rigid front segment.

Good shocks, better than the old long truck shocks that SS spring seem to like, are a must with Cal Tracks.

Want to go fast, spend more time/money/energy in the front end of the car than the rear.

Don't the Cal tracs just lock the springs up? I would think the springs wouldn't matter much anymore.

I just put Caltracs on my 66 Dart,I used my worn leaf springs from my 68 Cuda and put my new XHD leafs from the 66 Dart in the 68 Barracuda.I,m hoping to run mid 10,s now.I also did a bunch of work to my front suspension for better weight transfer.New steering parts and the RMS tubular UCA,s and Hymed strut rods.:happy8:

I plan on doing plenty of work on the front suspension as well as the rear. I have everything to completely rebuild front end, QA1 shocks (adj. front & rear), tubular a-arms, new torsion bars, Energy Susp. polyeurothane kit, plus plenty of other items. If I use the cal tracks with my SS springs, how is the car going to react? Is it going to stand the car on the rear bumper and dig trenches down the track or is it liable to break something. I really don't care for either to happen but I want to make sure they work with what I have.

What he said. If you go Cal Tracs, also go with their split monoleafs. By the way, my car has SS springs. There's no doubt in my mind that Caltracs are better. They do cost more, though.

I read somewhere that in order for the Caltracs to work right you need a good amount of front end lift, anybody know if this is true or not?? Also have read that Bills Alter-K does not allow enough "up"-travel for the Caltracs to work????

Lift in the front and Drop in the rear! They just stop leafspring windup/wheelhop and keep the pinion angle in line.

S/S springs are Very stiff! They also bend at the front with a bigblock!

The Cal-trac Monoleaf is the way to go.

I built my own and used the 383 S rear springs that came in the Cuda, less than a $100.. Don't know if the rear setup will hold the guesstimated 1000HP very long tho!

Calvert recommends at least 5" of up suspension travel from the static ride height, I talked to Bill quite in depth about this, if your thinking of running his front end and have concerns about it you should ask him his opinion.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I know what I'm going to do. Doing the split mono-leaf with cal tracks seems to be the way to go. I can use SS springs for a future project maybe. The website for cal-tracs says the springs come in various spring heights. Are the SS springs 3" higher than stock? I think I might go a little lower than that if so.
