fellas

who sells the lower radiator hose springs for a 340. young kids at local auto parts stores have no clue...

I have never purchased a new hose that had the spring in it. The only ones I have ever seen were put there by the factory. I need one myself.

Use a small campbells soup can or a piece of pipe and wind a coat hanger around it.

New hoses become old hoses and suck closed after a while.

hmmm.. good idea on the coat hanger thing!!! the hose i got is almost new so i dont want to buy another one. how far down in the hose should it go? all the way thru or on either end?

You don't need a spring if your cooling system is functioning properly. The only reason the coiled springs were in the hoses from the factory was-that they used a vacuum to fill the system on the assembly line in a hurry, without the spring the bottom hose would suck shut and hinder the quick fill. This is stated in a Goodyear application book, I also asked a Goodyear engineer years ago and he said the same thing.
Possibly with today's high volume water pumps, this might not be true anymore.

If your radiator hose "sucks closed", then you have big problems such as a thoroughly stopped-up radiator and a faulty pressure cap or so many leaks that the cap is useless. The cooling system operates under pressure (unless, like me, you are running waterless coolant) very much higher than is required to keep all the hoses "inflated" unless the radiator is so stopped up that you need to quit driving before it goes BOOM and come out in four pieces.

You do not need a coil spring in the hose.

appreciate all the replys. went to a high volume water pump from flowcool and they recomended it in there instruction sheet. thats why im looking into it....

never saw the need for the spring in the newer hoses. have had a spring in any of my hoses for years and have never had a problem.

ill keep an eye on it and see if its an issue under load. thanks all...

I got the one in my car from Mustang Unlimited:puke:It did fit good

Thanks for the tip BP27. I just ordered two of them. Better safe than sorry.

I just seen springs at Advanced and they were from Goodyear. They looked a sittle small but I'm sure that they can be had in a larger diameter.
