Back in the day, Cruise Night on Van Nuys Blvd.
My friend revs it up a few times at a stoplight and gets a ticket.
Get this.... " instigating a race "
Goes to court and asked the judge where in the vehicle code or traffic laws does such an infraction exist.
Judge sided with the cop...... $140.00
This is during the time the city was trying to shut down cruise night on Van Nuys Blv.
Wednesday night was cruise night, "Every business was open" and the street was so lit up it looked like daytime.
People brought lawn chairs and staked out spots to check out the action.
The food places were jammed with people, all the businesses were doing great business...............
It was just great.
Then the city decided we were just having too much fun.
They started writing tickets to anyone, even people who just came out to check out the cars and get a bite to eat.
The city and the cops managed to ruin a tradition that was in place for years.
Back in those days Van Nuys Blv. was Clean,businesses were doing great business, everything was ideal.
If I posted photos of Van Nuys blv. today you guys would turn your heads away.
It's a Filthy mess of closed down businesses, pawn shops, porno shops, and clapped out small mexican businesses where on the outside there is not one word in english.
Last time I was there looking down I saw a Mc Donald's bag in the gutter, it was so faded it was nearly pure white.
How many months does that take?
You guys know me by now, I don't stay quiet.
I saw an LAPD cop a while back at a hot dog stand,
so I say "hows it going?"
He says "ok" , I say are you old enough to remember Cruise Night on Van Nuys?
I was a kid he says, but I heard about it from my Dad
I ask, " did he tell you that it was the greatest thing ever?
Yeah, he says, he was there nearly every wed night, him & his friends.
So I say, "Back then the street was clean and businesses were doing great business"
I go on, "look at Van Nuys Blv. now, if you wanted to give the state of California an enema, that is where you would stick the hose"

The cop says, "yeah,... you're right"
I make the following points...........
1) You can be written a ticket for "anything", even tickets for which there is no law on the books, and it will fly if the judge goes along with it.
2) You can count on city, county, state, and federal government to act without thinking things through.
( and never admitting to the mistake afterward)
3) This is why the system here in the US was originally set up to be..........
