My Christmas present was someone's Hot Rod. My wife and I saw this 1967 Valiant on Craigslist and thought it would be a fun project for the first one without a lot of investment in time and/or money since it ran and sounded great. Bad brakes and rough interior, no heater not A/C.

We had it towed to our garage to begin project.

The little Valiant came with a factory 273 ci auto, Someone had changed to a 4 brl carb. I still have the original engine disassembled and plan to install a 360 ci. Future plans include a rebuilt front end to include front disk brakes, rebuild 904 transmission and 8 3/4" rear Posi.

I want to welcome you and say you have a great A body there :glasses8:

These Valiant's are a great breed from Plymouth :colors: Keep us posted and enjoy every minute you get to spend with it, Very nize :colors:

Sweet!

Looks similar to the one the dudes from Mopar Muscle mag built.

Submit your pics to readers rides and see if they will give you free parts to build yours too.????

Yeah, fat chance but it's nice to dream.

Been working on the disassembly phase of the project but had to rent a storage space to store parts since this is being done in a regular sized 2 car garage. I have removed:
engine and transmission; Front End with K-frame; Interior

Once the carpet was removed, it exposed the bad floor pans bu the good news its only the front left and right sides not the complete pan. After removing a bunch of spare parts from the trunk, that exposed to attempted repair of the trunk floor which will need to be replaced but the trunk extensions are good.

The paint is being removed using Aircraft stripper and scraper. The orginial car color was black with red primer and the car was oversprayed using gray primer and white paint and lots of Bondo so stripper has to work double duty.

I've modified the steering column for floor shift and had to modify the lower column support to accept a different bearing since I could not find a replacement.

The beginning of another project.....COOL.....welcome to FABO....

Got to say welcome and thats one dam SAWEEEEEET car...........Puts mine to shame . Glad to have you and hope you enjoy the site as much as that great car.........CongratsO:)

The original valve covers are worth something or use them on the 'other' V-8 and see if others think its a 273...

I got the steering column primed but can't decide if the column should be black or body color. Which causes the next thought. I would want the column the same as the dash so then what should be the dash color by?

Got the power seat tested and cleaned up the soleniods and mechanicals the lubed. The seat switch block had a Chrysler part number and it came back to a 1986-91 Chrysler Masariti TC. How they came to be in this car is unknown.

A curious part was discovered at the same time as the brake booster was removed. There was what appeared to be factory cruise control motor mounted to the fender well. It was t-ed to the vacuum line from the intake to the booster. It had a Chrysler part number and came back to a vacuum motor. It had an electrical connector (2 wire) with the wires cut. There was nothing on, in or around the dash to indicate the car ever had factory cruise. So any ideas why a vacuum motor would be there? Maybe to assist (provide more vacuum) the brake booster?

Got most of the white paint off the body and will be working next week to finish the paint removal process. It was hard for me to imagine how much body filler and rust was covered by the paint on the car but it will get fixed.

Since I had one taker for the free 273ci and that fell through, I've decided to keep the engine and maybe trade some down the road.

Got the drivers seat mocked up with wood. Next is fab the brackets. If that goes ok then the passenger seat then the rear bench seat brackets. Almost all the paint and bondo is off and ready to start removing the undercoating which may appear to be more than one coat (orginal and 1995 rebuild). I can only run the drill with steel brush for about 2 hours at a time especially underneath. Any recommendations as to the best coating to use underneath that can be applied with a paint brush since I can't turn the car over and I can't spray upsidedown? LOL
Until next time....
