Desert Car Kings

I like the show. Of course the drama and fake deadlines is typical Hollywood. Amazing the camera happened to be pointed right at the Barracuda rear glass when it was knocked off the stands, after pointed talk about being careful since it would cost $2K to replace. I also question the prep work, but noticed the Charger had fresh paint on the frame before they installed the fenders, though they didn't document that effort.

If you believe the auctions are real, then the market decides the price, which is the definition of fair, though some might pay $5K extra to be shown on TV as a winner. I do question the economics. They typically spend 3 wks with 3 full-time workers, plus the son and boss. Figure 500 hrs labor min. They usually say they need ~$5K to cover labor, so $10/hr avg. Those numbers don't work. Without the TV funding, it wouldn't pay. Of course, most FABO guys would be lucky to realize $1/hr for their labor if they decided to part with their treasure. Most wouldn't even recover the parts they put into it. That is why it only works as a hobby.

Anyone notice the Cialis ads that run with the show? An older guy's Chevy over-heats but he is so car-wise he walks past the mechanic and adds water to the radiator himself, then drives home to do his manly duty. Might impress non-FABO viewers since most people today are afraid to open the hood of their "computerized" cars. Maybe they pulled the ad for fear of lawsuits from dweebs who got burnt by spewing hot water when they tried that at home.
