I have an exhaust leak at the Manifold to the Downpipe. It is a 2 1/2 " TTI exhaust. This is on the passenger side. I had it apart 3 times now. It seems the angle is a little off on the connection to the factory manifold. Is there any tricks other than pulling the down pipe off and taking to muffler shop and bending? I was told that alot of times the 2 1/2 " downpipes are to big to make a tight connection and that you can trim a stock flange off and sandwich it in there, to make a tighter seal. Any thoughts? anyone ever do this? How about High temp silicone to take up the slopp? anyone ever try this?
all thoughts are appreciated.

i think first you have to figure out why its leaking, is it the pipe being bent wrong or is it the flange being to wrong size? could also be the flange being warped from to much heat while welding.

you cant add bends with a mandrelbender if you want to keep your pipes mandrelbent unless its at the end of the pipe and there is enough distance to the last bend to grip the pipe.
could also be the flange not welded on at the right angle and/or rotation.

I had a lot of problems with my TTI downpipes on my 340. TTI was absolutely no help. They told me they use a jig, so there's no way that they could have sent me the wrong part. On the driver's side, the pipe was smashed up against the 727, and I had to modify it to make it work. I added a spacer that was about an inch thick between the manifold and the head pipe, and it put the pipe in the correct position. Sounds like I had a pipe that wasn't quite right to me. The passenger side leaked like you describe, but I sold the car before I ever dealt with it.

according to TTI everything is fine with there bends and angles. Well I am going to go thru with my ideas this weekend and let everyone know how it works out.

revisiting an old thread here. I have the same problem drivers side to 340 hp manifold. cant seeme to get it tight enough so I have a leak. Got worse first time I rubbed the exhaust (sits pretty low as well).
