How do you know when an auto 904 tranny is going out?
I start my car and it runs great, I switch into gear and it dies, when I give it gas it will move, but when I go from reverse to drive, it dies..

After some reading, this sounds like it might be it. Thank you, Kim. I am going to have a shop check it out.
The tranny didn't get touched after I rebuilt the little /.
I was hoping I could get buy till I dropped the 360 in but I guess not.

Is that a 225 , 198, or 170 slant six?

I think around 1978. Next Door neighbor had a Diplomat and had 3 of them go bad in the time they owned the car. 2 of them would make it stall and 1 wouldn't engauge and would chatter.

Odds are either you idle is too low or the converter is going bad or already bad. If it was the actual trans you would either have slippage loss of a gear or like the 727 I have in my backyard it is stuck in low as in if its in reverse you still go forward if its in park it tries to go forward.
