Ron,

My guess is you need these for a brake swap, yes? I did a viper caliper swap and these re the spindles the new adapters are designed to bolt onto.

Wanna know why they choose this spindle?

1) Its cheap to find (getting a little tougher these days though)
2) It uses the newer wheel bearings so you can run the (still dirt cheap) later model disc brake rotors.

Now, the difference between this spindle and the rather common (like 66-72) B body drum spindle is........ ta-da... the inner wheel bearing surface. The 66-72 B Body drum spindle has a smaller diameter.

Now if only we could get a spacer to fit over the inner spindle area so the larger (late model, dirt cheap) rotor wheel bearing would fit ......

Ahh, Dr. Diff (aka Cass Eslick of Quality Body Shop in Polson MT) makes just such an adapter. $50 for a pair, routinely sold on his ebay store and then you can use the really easy to find 66-72 B Body drum brake sindle.

That is of course if my guess as to why you want these is on target, if not ----- never mind (grin).

So the solution was right in font of my face ! Cripes John I've only been on the Dr.Diff site 15 times in the last 6 months ! And Yes I am doing the Viper Disc Conversion .
Thanks.
I've been hunting 73-76 10"Drum spindles now for 4 weeks, I found the viper calipers (almost new) in 1 hour of searching, never thought the spindles would be so hard to locate.

Thanks John
Ron

Can '73-'76 front drum spindles either 9" or 10" or were all the front drums 10"?

is there a difference between 70-72 drum spindle, and a 73-76 drum spindle?

Hmmm.... I'm not 100% sure. 73 was the change to the larger inner wheel bearing for sic brakes, I wonder if that was true for drums as well?
Can '73-'76 front drum spindles either 9" or 10" or were all the front drums 10"?

Another one I am not sure about.....

Here is my "not so" scientific research...... (I checked on rockauto.com)

In 72 there are 2 sizes of inner wheel bearings shown #4 for 9" brakes (I assume drums) and #6 for 10" & 11" brakes (I assume 10" is drum and 11" is disc).

in 73 & 74 they don't list front wheel bearings as available at all ! This leads me to think the bearing size ( and by extension) the spindle is different starting in 73 - any thoughts?

I also checked drums, and they call for a different drum starting in 73. Leads me to think the spindles changed - anyone know for sure??

Don't know how this will figure into all of your swapping of brakes for the later cars because my head is filled with info regarding the earlier stuff but I do know that in '73 the A body cars went to a larger upper ball joint.
