How do you get the bolt in the bottom pully out of a 360?
I am also having a hard time rotating the block on the stand, I cannot get it to spin over.

well if you have the pan off and the crank in you can wedge a peice of wood in there and use a good long breaker bar...

as for rolling it over it can be a pain some times lol... try squirting some lube in between the to surfaces..

either the bolt should turn or the crank should turn
the answer to both questions is
1/2" drive socket, extension, breaker bar, piece of pipe slipped over end of breaker bar

when I try to turn it, it just keeps going and going.. turning the pistons and all.. but the bolt is staying in the same place...
I can get the block about half way turned then it stops..
I will try to pry it around tomorrow. I am filthy and I need to get cleaned up.

Install a couple flexplate/flywheel bolts in the back of the crank and wedge a pry bar in it so the engine won't turn while you try to loosen the bolt, they are very tight. I use a 1/2" impact.

I stuck a pry bar up in the crank and then did it, it came right off then, but now how do I get the pully off? does it pull straight out?
sorry, I have never taken the internals out, I have put a few parts in while I was in school, but the next class always continued where we left off. so it was hit and miss..

you need a puller... not the one that goes around the out side! that will pull the outer ring right off..

you need the one that bolts on in three spots

805 is right use a damper puller, not a gear puller.

BTW, for removing the crank bolt when the engine is in the car, I use a piece of steel strap with 2 holes in it. 1 for drilled to fit 1 of the torque converter bolts and the other a 1/4" hole, that I attach to 1 of the holes in the trans case where the lower shield bolts on. It works great to hold the crank from turning when you're working alone.

Try a 1/2" breaker bar and the biggest ball peen hammer you have, over straps, cheaters, and blocks of wood.... But an impact is the best way!

If your talking about the pulley (the part that turns the fan belt) its held on by 6 bolts, 1/2" head on them, the big bolt in the center only holds the damper in place. You'll probably have to tap the pulley off the damper once you remove the bolts.

nope, I am totally stupid, it was the harmonic ballencer. Lmao.. wow.. anyways after i got past that I got the rest done in about 30 min.

BIG HUGE THANKS TO PRINE!! He pm'd me and kept giving me tips on the best way to deal with taking things off.. He is def. one of the nice guys on the site..

New question
Can a slant six 904 work with a SB by changing bell housing, or do you need an entire new transmission?

The only difference between those too are the starter mount which is on the bellhousing so yes it should work.. I believe you can only change housings on manual trans. I might be wrong lol

lol, thank you, I know nothing about tranny's, I am trying to learn as much as I can on all mechanical parts.

Lol ya me too I learn as I go... I learned a lot when I built my first engine its been about 600 miles on it now and I love it. Don't be afraid to attack any project how you learn is by the mistakes u make lol

as far as I know,904 autos don't have removable bellhousings so you would have to get a small block 904 trans if you're going from a /6 to a SB V8.Luckily,they're pretty easy to find.

Auto trans cases have integral bell housings that don't interchange. There are 3 distinct bolt patterns,
1. big block, 426 Hemi
2. LA, poly, early Hemi, 3rd gen Hemi and 4.7
3. /6

You must have a trans that mates to those engines.

lol I gain so much information from this site it is not even funny.

I am looking at cams now.. considering a hydro roller..
Any input?

Yeah it would be stupid if you didn't ask and broke stuff. lol

You probably oughtta start another thread on that. Maybe tell us more of what your engine is. Is it stock? All that kinda stuff.

Im trying to save space on the post, seeing how I have already talked about my engine and other what not on here.. besides I can search one post and find all of my intel. :D

It is a stock 360 block out of an 86 Dodge truck. This is all I know, a guy offered it to me for 100 dolla so I snatched it and let it set for two years.. just finished taking it apart obviously.. lol

the machine shop is in turmoil, the mechanic took off and messed all sorts of stuff up for the owner, unpaid bills, messed up accounts, maybe even stole some money.. Idk.. its a mess so there was no help going there..

I am looking into a 408 stoke kit. probably going to go with forged crank and pistons, I just dont know which type of cam... there is no limit on price, just going to build over time..
I want to figure all of this out because I am going to have the block honed and bored and all the jazz to the specs of the kit and then have it painted inside and out so I dont have to worry about it rusting up.. The owner of the shop estimated the total cost to be 350.00
