Ok, well I'm in the process of swapping out a Slant Six for a 318 V8.

Now, I'm having trouble finding a 8 3/4 rearend, so my question is this,

Realisiticly, how long will my rearend hold out?(It's a '75 Plymouth Duster, and it's a Slant Six car)

Now, I've got a heavy foot, so I'm going to try and watch that, what else should I "not" be doing? And what can I do to help it last as long as possible?

Many thanks in advance.

keep your foot out of it on hard starts. A 7.25 has been behind my 340 for years and it's still working fine, but it's not as much fun...

Automatic or manual trans? I've known people to run one with good sized tires and an auto trans & abuse it a bit. I had wide tires on my car behind my 273 with a 4 speed & broke the spider gears shifting from 1st to 2nd. You gotta' be somewhat nice to them.

Its an auto, 3 speed(current trans.) not sure about the torqueflight 904 I'm getting. It came out of a '72 Satillite that had a 360. It is also an automatic.

spider gears in my 7-1/4 2 times behind my 360. I also could not find or afford a 8-3/4 so i went with the 8-1/4. I hope it holds up ! good luck

DusterFan where are you located in California? I might have an 8 3/4 for you out of my 72 340 demon.

Hi, yes I am in Cali, shoot me a PM please. Also just curious but would a 8 3/4 rear end w/ posi traction out of a '67 Fury sport work? It has a 383 in it.

My first motor was a 318 and 7.25 combo in a 1975 with the 4 speed a833, 1 hole shot and gears exploded. It felt like the back of the car lifted about a foot.
