Finally got an oil gauge on today after a couple months of Russian Roulette (no gauge or light).

I am wondering if there is another oil port on the block that can be used besides the one on the oil pump?

I have a solid 40lbs at idle but since it is right at the pump I am wondering about later on down the oil passages in the block.

Thanks

If your really concerned pull the valve cover and see that you have flow to the valve train. (do a valve adjustment while you are in there). You will get back what you spend by better fuel economy and lower maint costs. And have the piece of mind that the top end is getting oiled.

Need to change my valve cover gasket cuz it's leaking...so I guess it's time to tackle the valve adjustment too. Guess I'm getting oil up top since it leaks....

I've seen some early blocks with a tap on the main oil gallery but the pressure there has always matched the pump pressure every time I've compared them.

in a system pressure will always be equal... no matter where you take the measurement from...

Ok...got the valves adjusted. Only a couple were what I thought were out of adjustment...first time so took a bit to get the feel of it. Sounds a little less like a sewing machine now.

Top of the head and rockers etc were really clean...I'm happy.

Anything downstream from the first bearing will have less oil pressure. Each bearing leaks a little out so there is less pressure the farther you get from the main gallery. That's why a high volume pump is more important than a high pressure pump. If the volume stays high, the pressure will stay up even with the oil loss through the various bearings.

good call! well high volume is good as long as you have an old pump or hardened gear on a new pump...
