10 Greatest Muscle Cars of All Times
Certainly , a 1970 Buick GS-X ( especially with the Stage 2 package ) would be something I'd welcome into as a part of my dream collection .
Whenever I see "Pony" Cars ( T/A Javalin , Mustang , Camaro , Barracuda and Challenger small blocks) in these lists , I discount their presence . They're not -technically- Muscle Cars ; not unless they were equipped with a big block / Boss 429 / Hemi .
It seems that as time passes , the "Muscle Car" designation and its boundries become more and more obscured . Used to be limited to mid-sized American cars with minimal options / accessories and the biggest engine produced by their respective companies , from 1964-1971 ( GTO , Road Runner , 442 , Chevelle / Malibu , Super Bee , et al. ) ; they were not classified as such if they were a full-sized luxury car with a big motor
( Grand Prix , Catalina , Chrysler 300 , New Yorker , Impala , et al. ).
"Pony" Cars are small block , Trans-Am / road-course racing-specific cars ( '64-'69 273/340 Barracuda Formula S , '65-'66 Dart GT 273 ,'65-'66 260 / 298 Mustangs , '67-'73 302 / 350 Camaro Z-28 , '70 Challenger T/A , '70 Cuda AAR , 290-304-343 Javelin , '67-'74 Firebird Trans-Am 301/350 ).
Never-the-less , it's all opinion in regard to these "top" lists .
I like and enjoy all makes and models , even foreign cars ( mostly , Renault R5's and other Rallye cars ) , but they have no place on these lists ( not that this one does ... except for the exotic '66 Cobra A.C. 427 ) .
