I wasnt sure how to title this post, but it is about cars that are found in various conditions. My favorite MOPARs are the OLD race cars, drag, oval or whatever. I feel that those cars should be restored back 2 the way that they were raced in the 60s or 70s. It seems that so many were restored back to showroom condition, that is ok too, but the history of the car is gone forever, right? On the other hand, I am a purist, and want to see cars that were not race cars, restored to showroom stock, If I found a mopar (whatever) that was converted to a drag car the day that is was bought be it a hemi or whatever I would have a hard time turning it into a showroon stocker. Do you guys like, those true race cars at shows or am I the only one? Yes, I know that if it is their car, they can do whatever they want with it.

I think if a car has a real history, drag or whatever, that it should be left that way.. I saw a '71 Cuda on ebay some time back that was claimed to have been bought by Elvis new (they had a lot of paper work on it), the person who owned it tryed to make a resto-mod out of it..

If that's true, he should be dragged out into the street and shot.

...yeah...turned out to be Bogus!

Back to the question about race cars...I guess it depends on the car. If it was a well known famous race car then do it back that way. If it was a 318 car then leave it a race car.

If it was a race car its whole life and was a well known race car with alot of history, then yes, restore it to its original race ready condition regardless of how rare the car is. But, if its a car that was turned into a race car by the original owner, and its not a well known name or car in it's race condition, then I would vote to restore it back to stock. That would be especialy true for a rare high performance model.
I have a friend who owns a 67 Charger factory 440 4 speed car. Pretty rare car, with maybe about 300 built. This one is even more rare with console delete. The car was purchased new and turned into a drag car by the original owner. It spent its whole life as a drag car. But, theres no noteworthy history. The only advantage it's drag racing past has for restoration is that it was never exposed to road salt, and never even had a parking lot ding. But, just because the original owner decided to modify and race a rare car, that doesn't mean that it should be put back to the original owner's vision for the car. My friend plans to put this rare one back to factory stock.

I've got a 63 Pontiac Catalina, 421 4spd car with 63,000 original miles put on 1/4 mile at a time. It still has Crager S/S wheels on the front with steelies on the back. It was last registered for street duty in 1963. Time has been rough on the old car but it just has something about it that I like. It's wearing all it's original black paint with red interior.

That's cool, would like to see it, Pontiac built some sweet old cars... I knew a guy that would buy a new GT mustang about every 3 or 4 years, he just used it to drag race then when he traded it in the car was a SUPER LOW mile trade in, kinda smart when ya think about it...
