I just want to burn and get rid of this stuff

-
My father was a WWII and Korean Vet US Army Reired and a couple years deceased! If these kind of things are destroyed and forgotten History will repeat itself. At least give them to a Vets Museum!

My father came back from ww11 in the pacific with japanese rifles, helmets, bayonets. The brass gave it to them as trophys, for spending 4 years of there lives, getting shot at, and wanting to disarm Japan, for awhile. My grandfather came back with souveners from ww1, from hand to hand in the trenches. The actions took it away from the bad guys.

wow some of those prices are high and those flags are creepy

I'll have to research the value of the pins when I'm not suffering from flu :<

Stop and think about what our grandfathers, fathers, and us went through(nam). That stuff was brought home for a reason.

MeMike, this is the way I see it.If the old man knew his wife was needing money for bills,food,etc..and she(the aunt)could sell these items to help get by,by all means sell them and help the old lady.Put yourself in an elders shoes on a fixed income. The old man would be happy to know that some good came from these historic pieces.Just a thought...Good luck.:-D

X2, that nazi stuff is high dollar collectibles..

Mike I understand your feelings. :salute: I have recently taken an interest into our World Wars. It has given me a different respect for the ones who fought for our freedom. I am not a fan of our government but those men and woman who served should never be forgotten.

They are/were trophies of the Allied victory over Axis hatred...every race on the planet takes a "trophy" from a victory of war/battle/fight. Burning them eliminates the memory and erases the things that people need to remember and recognize the traits should they approach again!!! FAR too many have already forgotten those atrocities, hell some folks don't even want to remember the 9/11 and are more than willing to accept suggestions of Kiss & make up......I do not think so!!! its too easy for those who did not serve and did not see the carnage to become complacent and accepting and embrace the diversity....crapola!!!

EXACTLY! We need OBLs head as a trophy if you ask me. I hope thatevil bastard is rotting in hell. There is a special place there for "people" like him and Hitler.

My Dad also brought back a buch of trophies from Japan after which included a bunch of Samurai swords. When he died his life insurance wasn't enough to sustain my mom who had the swords appraised and sold them one of which was worth 25k. Even though you are upset by the symbols you possess you might consider selling the stuff if you need the money.

I say give them to your local museum. I have photos and items from my grandfather from WWI that I loan to the local museum and they are overjoyed to have these to show others about history. It also my help reinforce what really happened in the past as some are already trying to say there were really no camps and it was all made up as most conspiracy theories state. It helps show the truth.

What a great film and slice of history.....
still hate Buses......
you mean the kinds of buses with Detroit 6v71's in 'em ? :toothy4:.
I kinda miss seeing those houses (in the movie) , that neighbourhood . The "T.R." house was about 5 miles from where I grew up , right off of I-605 ; now I-105 terminates there .

*sorry to go off-topic for a minute*

I agree with you -- and everyone else who's responded as such -- 100% .

Maybe a 'happy medium' would be in order : sell off some of the items that are in so-so condition , and donate the items which are in good condition .

I'm glad your not going to destroy the items. Sometimes people destroy things they don't understand. Iam a WW2 history buff. Not all German soldiers were simpathetic to the Nozi movement, many were forced to serve or face firing squads. This was even greater towards the end of the war as children were recruited for lack of young adault men. What you have is a treasure and you were linked to that person and time. Feel privaleged.

Hello Mike,
I understand your feelings toward these objects, It is natural to
feel repulsed by them as a first reaction.
I can see you are also a man of reason by trying to discover the true
meaning of your reaction and the symbalisim they invoke.
I applaud you!!!
The true way to enlightenment and knowledge is to work
though the emotions and rhetoric you are bombared by to an understanding.
You my friend are indeed on a mission of understanding and
are becoming more and more a man of great wisdom and courage.
You maynot be able to reconcile your feelings and their meanings but please know that these articles were hard won by both sides.
Just as you would not destroy history of the south/north war, let this
be a reminder of where we came from and how it shaped the world.

Please do not destroy them, pass or sell them to the future, so
they may learn and understand.

Carl

My Dad was a WW2 and Korean Conflict Vet! They are part of history and history forgotten will repeat itself! Hopefully theres a Sea Turtle muchin on Bin Ladens Nuts!

I vote for donating them to the local VFW. They are the guys that put their lifes on the line to conqure the evil.
I just got off the phone with my 90 year old uncle....WWll and Korea Vet.

That is what he suggested. If the VFW does not want them..... military museum.

Hell send it to me, Some of that shait could be worth big $$$$. Take it to one of those antique shows and have it checked out.

That stuff is kept around to remind newer generations of the evil that once was and was taken care of.

I've got a whole room in my house of WWII stuff mostly U.S. but I do have some G.I. bring back trophies too.
Between you (I want to be the kitten) and other avatars; can't focus on the ? , lol.

Whatever happened to the items in question?

I've been collecting WWII militaria for years and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Be careful when donating items to a museum. You'd be knocked silly if you ever seen how many items are donated to a museum, cataloged by the museum, then stuck in boxes in the basement so slowly rot/rust away into nothing. I've actually purchased a few lots from museums when they needed more storage space.

Very well said longarm! Mike is truly a unique and intelligent man and good on him for trying to work this out in his head.

Mike, you rock! Like so many have said here, these are are hard won spoils of war and symbolize the triumph over the nazis. They should be sold to responsible collector and proceeds given to the widow.

The reason I feel this way is because I also have some WWII trophies and spoke to my Dad shortly before he passed. I said "Dad, I would never, ever part with these things as they mean and symbolize survival to me and represent the hard work and sacrifice you went through.", he said "Joe, if ever get into a bind, please don't feel bad about selling this stuff. You are far more important to me than any trophies or memories." This is straight from the horses mouth so to speak.

Just food for thought brother. :)

Call me old school or no scchool :angry7::angry7::angry7:
But this stuff just bothers me just being in the house...:angry7::angry7:
My wife's aunt was cleaning out the attic and pulled her father stuff out and told my wife to sell it on e-bag :angry7:
Metals for hittlers men and arm rags with the swastika on them :angry7:
along with a small flag belt buckles and metals.............................:angry7:
When she opened up the box full of this chit I just turned my head and said get that out of our house :angry7:
Her aunts father must have pulled these things in the army back in the day...

As most of the members here know I did not get much of a history lesson on much of anything realy except what I have learned here on this site..and what my uncles, Mom and Grandmother gave me and what I have seen on the tv.

Wy do things like this bother me I have been asking myself. :angry7:
I found out last night that she can not sell these on e-bay 8)

Any insite on this would be gratefully appreciated :angry7:

Is it just me ? or is it :wack: to even have these things in our position.

hey memike if i could send you something could i get some from ya? lol i would like them for my WWII memorial i have on my wall...

I have a small box of Nazi things given to me by my father, they were given to him by his father. I never got the complete story, but I know my Grandfather was at Omaha beach on D-day. One of the items is a Nazi armband with dried blood on it. I know I am making assumptions since I didn't get the entire story, but I must assume that Grandpa removed them from a German soldier. Whether he killed him or not is irrelevant to me. Those items are a sobering reminder of the sacrifices he and his fellow soldiers made for our country, and succeeded. My father was a veteran, as am I. I'm not into the gore of war, but those brave men went up against one of the scariest men in history. I will proudly pass these things on to my son when it's time and tell him the facts as I know them. I agree with some of the other posts here Memike, about how each person has to deal with this bit of history in their own way. Nothing wrong with having differing opinions on how to deal with war. It's a sad, emotional thing no matter how it's looked at.

Im shocked this thread is still going.

did they sell?

she was asking top dollar..
if it hurts so bad and represents evil...why try to capitalize off of it so much?

Thank you Carl, I have learned allot here in this thread and see these things in a different light now :color:
I never met any of my grandfather's, My Cherokee grandfather on my mothers side never returned from war is what my grandmother always told me as a child and my grandfather on my dads side of the family was in the USAF and retired and lived in Europe is the story I got from my mom.
I met my Father when I was 16 and he confirmed that with me.
My great uncle Carl "my grandmothers brother posed as a French man to get a job at Toledo scale company and stayed on the road building and setting scales.
I have much to learn about history and all my learning came from my uncles and farmers that would tell stories about the Japan war and one man a farm hand had some cool stories about being a rat hole crawler and the things he did was unreal the way he told these stories to us.
All of my family older then me, other than my older brother that lived with my dad his hole life are gone.
My old way of thinking has changed about this stuff, and I admire all the great stories that ramcharger has shared with us here in this thread and many more threads in the last three years :color:
Treva is gone today to her aunt's house where she got the WWII stuff to help get ready for a rummage sale and it was here husband that was in the war not her grandfather like I thought :!:
It's my wife's day off and her Strongend has started :color:
So here I am reading and getting caught up on this thread this morning :color:

Thank you ALL!!! for the new found wisdom and outlook on this subject

Know if anyone needs to know anything about how to build a snare or what tree bark can be eaten to survive to using willow tree's to catch fish and use the leaf to help with pain I have that dawn pat :toothy3:
Again Thank you all for teaching me the importance of the things I looked at in the wrong light :hello1: I am a better man understanding it for what it is :hello1:
