I know this question is asked all the time but I can't get a solid answer and I dont have the internet speed in Afghanistan to search through a bunch of pages to find it! I have a 73 Dart swinger I was told I could get a 255/60-15 tires to fit on a 15-8 rim with 4.75 backspacing.... do you think I would still be able to squeez it under there with 4.5 backspacing? What sized tire have you been abe to fit without modifications! Thanks for your help!

I think the guys running 255-60-15 are using 15X7s with 4.25" backspacing. It will be tight, a 235-60-15 seems to be the safe choice, but those 255-60 look good stuffed back there.

I think you could if you rolled the lip on wheel well I have a 255/60 on mine with the 4.75 back spacing and theres actually more tire clearance on wheel well lip than the leaf spring Easiest way is to get the rim and go buy a used cheap tire in the size you want and try it out on both sides

What width of wheel are you running with the 4.75 backspacing? It might make a difference depending if they are 7's or 8's.

You can put a 275/60 on the rear with a 15x8 or 8.5, but, the wheel needs to be just right

I just put a set of 15x10's with a 4.5 bs on my 74 Dart Sport. Tires are 28x12". Only mods are super stock leaf springs. They fit very well.

If it helps at all I have 235 60 14 BFG radial TA's under my 70 Dart on stock 5.5 wide ralleye rims and have at least 1 inch or more clearance on both the unmolested lip and the leaf springs. 255's would have probably fit but may have scrubbed on hard cornering or bumps. I went to my local tire guy who said that it was no problem to order and mount a set for me to try and if they hadn't worked he would have sent them back and ordered the next larger size. I don't care what the government says about the economy,it's still hard, and I'm sure your local mom and pop tire guy would be willing to work with you as he is probably hungry for business.

I have a spring relocation kit in my dart (its a 67) when I bought it. It looks to be about a 1" relocation kit. I was able to get 275 60 15's under the back with cragar ss 15x8 with a 5 3/8 back spacing. They have about finger width of clearance.
