Cheap challenger and ton of parts in Compton

Compton...my old National Guard unit was located in Compton in the mid '70s. Just a few good stories:

* The armory was broken into one weekend. The bad guys cut a hole in an exterior door with a torch, got into the weapons room and stole a few racks full of M16s but didn't get the firing pins that were locked in a separate safe. The FBI recovered all the weapons a couple of years later on an undercover sting operation in East L.A. - still chained and locked in the racks.
* After morning formation on Saturday, we'd head to the Compton PD jail to see if that's where any local Guard members had spent the night before.
* Coming back from weekend duty at Ft. Irwin, one of our guys driving a deuce-and-a-half (2.5 ton Army truck) stopped at a red light a block from the armory, looked over on the corner and a local was standing there with a hand gun trained on him. Needless to say he ran the light.

Yeah, Compton...great part of L.A.
