Any way too tell what type auto trans you have with it in the car? Car is a 68 GTS. Also probably going to be changing motor from late 71 to a 73 difference being steel to cast crank. Anything else to change besides converter? 71 badly spun bearing crank not salvagable. Found a nice standard 73 doner.
 
I thought I read the 904 only came behind the 273 and 318. I could be wrong. also my buddy had a 68 340 GTS dart it had a 727..

Where will the markings be , I'll probaply pull it and go through it. Any suggestions on upgrades to the trans. Going to be similar to stock numbers with a nicer cam and as close to 9:1 as possible.Stainless headers ld340 mani, 650 eldebrock carb. Going to be a nice tight street car. 323,s for gears.
 
hahaha thats a good question. I only own big blocks so I dont have a option.. :D
 
904/ 727 easy to tell, just stick your head under the passenger side and look at the pan rail. 904 is straight sided, 727 has a big bulge towards the front right side
