UGH!!!!! Hate wiring problems... When I push the brake pedal my instrument lights and front parking light illuminate... Where do I start ???

Brake switch works thru your turn signal switch as do your front turn signals. Possibly a defective turn signal switch? Also look for damaged wiring in your steering column.

you are back feeding your parking lights or tailight circuit and instrument cluster through the brake light circuit. Check the all the rear bulbs for filiment short and your tailight harness in the trunk and work your way front. to the headlight switch. Your tail and instrument lights do not go through the column unless its auto on the column and that would be the orange wire that luminates the gear selector running up the column, unplug it at the bottom of the column if its not in the trunk. your brakes do not go through the headlight switch.I would say your going to find a bad bulb or socket pigtail in trunk or behind the bumper on some cars. good luck. Steve

How would the turn switch light up the instrument cluster? I was just following the circuit it doesn't seem to go through the switch. There is no connection to to the instument panel lights or tail/parking lights through the turn switch. The only way I see would be through the column shift light and it is a separate orange wire. And the brake lights do not go through the headlight switch. Unless I am missing something and someone could point this out. I would be interested to know. I believe the problem is going to be found between the kick panel to the rear of the car rear . I just don't see where the . Brake , tail/parking, and instrument lights. cross in the switches . except like I stated the orange wire.

Its a four speed car. I will start at the back bumper and work my way forward. Thanks.

One front park lamp or both ? Does the tag lamp and/or rear lights work ? Turn signals work ?

It gets worse.. Hope y'all can follow this..
With headlight only on all that works is the two front headlights.
With headlights on + brake every light works..
With HL off and only brakes pushed every light except front HL's are on...
With rt turn signal on both rt and left turn signals work..
with left turn signal on only the left rear works...
Could it have anything to do with the two front fender mount turn signals being disconnected??? Thanks.

If the fault is in a bulb socket it would have to be at the rear.
When a chassis ground fails at a front fixture the park lamp circuit grounds through the turn circuit so a turn indicator on the dash will come on with the park lamps.
By the same token when a brake fixture looses its chassis ground it might ground through the park circuit which lights up all the park lamps. That should blow a the brake light fuse or at least cook the bulb where the fault is.
Too much junk in the trunk can chew the rear light harness. Faulty trailer light harness wiring is another common cause.

Check all bulbs and wiring . I sounds like you have the brake light system crossing into the parking lights.

Something I recall from the past and worked on all my dads cars pre 70. He would aways take the Keys and leave us wait in the car. I would always get behind the wheel and pretend to drive . I figured this out, and it would kill his battery. If you would put the 4 ways on they would work without the key so they had battery power all the time. The turn signals would not so they were tied into the accessary on the ignition. So I put the 4 ways and the turn signals on the one day in the rain and the the wipers started to move and stop with the blinkers. so I tried other things . The heater fan radio and anything tied to the accessary would go on and off with the blinkers. Then I hit the brakes and low and behold everything in the car worked and stayed on steady as long as you would stay on the brake have the 4way and blinker on. Well that was it, every time he left us in the car we would listen to music and activate different accessaries. "We were cruisin" My dad would always have to get a jump start when he would come out. He bought a new battery and we killed it. We never told him. This was driving him crazy for a couple of years through three cars that I remember. A 65 426 4pd conv fury. A 66 crysler 300 conv. and a 69 4sp corronet R/T. This worked on every car he left us sit in while he was doing what ever. Me and my 4 sisters kept our secret. He went to his grave not knowing. So this is what a back feed of power could do. Not saying this your problem. But just a freindly FYI and a memory from the past

You're right, I used to do this on my Dart. Turn on the flasher and turn signal, press the brake and it would power up the car. I never bothered to figure out why.

The fuse box has 2 feed wires on 2 separate bars, one hot at all times and one hot at switch on. What you did was supply the switch on bar with the hot at all times power at the brake light switch though the turn signal switch and flasher circuit. The run the wipers or heater blower this way should over heat some wires / connections / switches.

You're right, this can easily fry something. I only did it for a few seconds. Don't try this at home.
