Post/debate your stroker small block builds here

Ok, let's hear what we've all done. I'll list two, with intended usage, the whats and whys, and the costs.

Budget 408: Goals of low cost, low maintenance, 5500 redline, power in the 430hp @ 5000rpm, 500tq @ 3200 range

Machining is where I dont skimp at all. Straight, flat, square, and balanced goes a long way to keeping average parts alive and making good power. So, the base stroker shortblock: clean, sonic test, align hone, square deck, bore, plate hone to ultra smooth finish, clearance for stroker crank/rods, deburr valley and oil drains, enlarge main feeds to 5/16, radius oil passages at filter plate, recon rods, bush pin ends for floating pins if not original, narrow pin ends if not Magnum rods, clean, install cam bearings/block hardware, mockup, assemble complete, degree cam. $2150

Parts: ARP main bolts, rod bolts, head bolts. Eagle cast crank, KBhyper pistons, SP rings, Cleavite/Durabond bearings, Comp cam/lifters/pushrods. Summit timing set, intake manifold, distributor. Edelbrock carb. Melling oil system. MP HP oil pump kit, oil pump drive, fuel pump eccentric, windage tray, rockers and shafts. Airtex fuel pump, water pump. FelPro gasket set. Mr G Tstat, intake gasket, header gaskets, air cleaner assembly. Dorman block hardware. Taylor wires. Autolite plugs. Gates hose. Reuse stock pan, timing cover, valve covers, slinger, dipstick and tube, oil filter housing/adaptor. $2990

heads: reuse any 340/360/Magnum iron castings. Complete go thru with performance in mind. so, guides, exh seats, 2.02-2.08 intakes, 1.65 exh stainless valves, guides trimmed, spring seats cut, gasket match, bowl blend, setup with matched springs, keepers, locks, milled for correct finish. $1200

Total: $6340 complete, air cleaner to full oil pan

Street/strip 416: goals of pump fuel, average maintenance, 6500 redline, power in the 525-600hp, 500-550tq

Machining: same as above minus $150 for using new rods. Possibly add $550 for lifter bore bushings and roller cam lifter clearancing. It's not a secret that good machining is the same on any displacement engine. With roller cam $2550.

Parts:ARP main studs, head bolts. Eagle H beam rods. Diamond forged pistons. C&A rings. King/Cleavite/Durabond bearings. "?" cam/lifters. Smith Bros. pushrods. Summit timing set. Edelbrock intake. Holley carb. Melling oil pump. MP cast crank, HP oil pump kit, oil pump drive, valve covers, timing chain tensioner. Crane rockers and shafts. Milodon pan, pickup, windage tray. Airtex water pump. FelPro gasket set. Mr G Tstat, intake gasket, header gaskets, air cleaner assembly. Dorman block hardware. MSD distributor. Taylor wires. Autolite plugs. Gates hose. Reuse stock timing cover, slinger, dipstick and tube, oil filter housing/adaptor. $5550

Heads: Edelbrock 63cc RPM, heads corrected, cc'd, fitted with matching springs, retainers, locks, ports cleaned up to remove CNC marks, gasket matched, milled with proper finish for gasket type. $2250

Total $10350.00 That again, complete carb to full oil pan, with a solid roller. A flat tappet would be about $9000. Pricing is off the top of my head, and I'll always lean towards the higher figure. I'd rather be high and have you not surprised, then say "$6000" and have all kinds of flailing when it's only the bare longblock for that $$.

"Your results may vary..." flame away! :D
