A friend said that he might be able to just sell me a 383 of his that I've had my eye on for many years. Since buying my Dart though I've really no need for it. But that being said, what would I need to do if for some stupid reason I wanted to pull my 318 out of my '67 Dart and instead put in the 383? Current setup is a 318 with a 904.

What will I need to change?

Transmission, suspension (torsion bars, brakes if not already upgraded), frame stiffening (frame connectors), engine mounts, headers, heavy duty rear axle (8 3/4 - Dana 60), money & patience :book:

I guess the grass is always a little greener on the other side, I have a #'s 69 barracuda BB show poodle I'm restoring but I really cant wait to build a rippin small block to put in a dart or duster to just have fun with.

I too would love to have a nice approx 350hp small block to play with but building one is way more expensive that what a stock 383 will cost me. Around here it's hard to even find a running 318 for less than $500. A running 340 is near impossible for under $4000 and even a 360 is almost impossible to find even in rebuildable (not running) condition.

Have you thought about a junkyard magnum motor from a truck or jeep, a lot of bang for reasonable dollars. There are several threads in the small block forum about this swap.

The only reason I was thinking about maybe building a 318 up was because it would be simply to install, take out old 318 and put in new one without having to worry about changing anything.
