I believed they stopped making B's and E's by 1974. That is almost 40 years ago. They should be getting very hard to find in most areas by now. Do the repop them or do you need to find them used and usable. Steve

Very hard to find??? Are you kidding???

This is a STANDARD PART ON B & E BODIES!!!

Here is a link to a set I picked up here recently for $30. You have to scroll down a few posts to find them as they are not listed in the original one.

Also the ones you bought look like they were 7 1/4 which is different from Dana and 8 3/4.

Good price nice and clean good luck with your sale...

Dang, if these get $100 a pop then I should sell the ones I got at a Mopar swap meet for $10 8)
Put them up for sale,I,ll double your money to $20.These shock plates ARE hard to find in my area anyway.I,m surprised nobody is re-popping these as there is a market for them.JMO8)

What happened to people on here showing some class. If you don't like his price don't buy them. No one wants to here your criticism of the sellers parts. If you were the seller you wouldnt appreciate it. Show some class and quit acting like Chevy guys.l

I didn't want to say anything, but it bothered me too much what he was claiming and how much he was asking. I do not want some newbie or teenager new to the hobby to believe the false claim that these are very rare and waste their money paying $100 for something that typically sells for $40 - $50. If you buy U-bolts from Mancini Racing (as many as I have), you learn that the U-bolt for the Dana and for the 8 3/4 axle are the same, therefore the shock mounting plate is the same for the same bolt spread. So the claim for the "Dana" is true, however this is also a standard plate that fits BOTH DANA & 8 3/4.

But in this case it seems that he is using the "Dana" name to "pump up the price". Just like many other sellers here using "340" to pump up the price and try to generate more interest for their parts. Many of the parts that I see advertised here as "340" parts also go on 318's. So basically it is a "standard small block part". Because it also fits on a 340 they advertise them as "340 parts" to try to make them sound more unique and rare and get more money for them (ie. timing chain covers, water pumps, electronic distributors, pulleys, starters...).

It doesn't seem honest to me to try to pass off a standard small block part as a unique 340 part, when in fact it is a standard interchangeable small block part. A true 340 part is like: original carburetors, 68 - 70 340 exhaust manifolds, stock dual point distributor off of a 340 (some 273's also had dual point dist. but different p/n), 2.02 X or J heads, pistons, rods, cranks etc. Something that ONLY CAME ON 340's. It's similiar to someone seeing a Hemi car pull alot of money in a sale and then they go home and have the same body style with a slant 6 and think it is worth as much as the original Hemi car.

8 3/4 axles were RARE ON A-BODIES, but STANDARD ON B, E, & C BODIES! Have you gone to the B or E body sight and seen what they get for the 8 3/4 axles? I've seen some going for as low as $250 complete for an open axle with axle, housing, and open carrier. The same setup here for an A-body pulls $500 - $800. The shock plates for the B, E, & C bodies are the same as the ones for the A-bodies and they made millions of those cars in the 60's and 70's. It's hard to find old Mopars in the junkyards nowadays because they are so old and parts are not in as high of demand as later model cars. And most that were in junkyards were scrapped when the price of metal peaked and were all sent to the "crusher". But most people stripping one of those cars should have some.
So the claim that these are "rare" is totally and completely FALSE.

The picture under his name even shows an E-body on a trailer. If he has worked on E-bodies he should know 8 3/4 axle was the standard E-body axle and is not rare at all.

Here are a few examples of what they pulled here in the recent past:

So Mr. daredevil, are you saying that it is ok for people to pump up their parts trying to sell them under false pretenses? I have a birth control pill that I can sell you that will prevent you from catching AIDS and Herpes if you use it and can be used by both men and women. Is that OK to advertise? Hell no, no pill is capable of doing that. And anybody that tries to advertise or claim that, needs to be called out and put in check. It used to be illegal to make false claims in sales ads, I'm not sure if that law still is in effect today. You know that old "False Advertising" relic...

All I wanted to do with my original post was bring to his attention that his price was high. I have bought some of these, and will buy more, but not at this price ($100). I have plenty of time and patience to wait for another "more reasonably" priced set to come along. Like you said, if you don't like the price don't buy it. These are nice parts and if he would lower his price would be a good deal whether I bought them or someone else did, but I would hate for someone who doesn't know better to spend their money on them at this price. Especially in today's economy.

Sorry fm3demon340 to do this to your post. I didn't want to step on your post this hard, but daredevil got in my grille and I had to state my case. If you would ask around $50, these would sell fast and both parties would be getting a good deal. As you can see from my links above that this would be a fair and reasonable price. If you do decide to lower the price, please open a new thread/post as this one has gotten a little muddied.
Good luck.

A bit harsh, but you know what?
You're right..... and in line on the topic for your reasons stated.
However, i would have minded my own business.
Too late now.

Back at ya. :violent1:

YOU could have minded YOUR OWN business, but felt the need to post also. :thefinge:

Too late now. :butthead:

But I do appreciate that you considered my point. For that, I buy you an ice cream.

:icescrea:

I,d like to see you get a vacation. I never said I agree on his pricing. Just that it was his pricing and his thread. Guess you didnt get the point. Maybe you should read the posting rules for the for sale threads. I myself have sold a pair to a member here for 50. recently. But while I understand you having to say something to save the public you believe to be morons it is the buyers job to research such things. I felt same as you about the price but have more couth and ettiquite. Have a nice day and I love the child like use of the finger emoticons. Very tasteful. NOT. DD

Sorry, I rarely take vacations. Unless it is to a car show once in a while.

As far as you selling a pair to a member here for $50...Good for you. You asked a fair price for your part and the buyer got a fair deal. I will buy you an ice cream for that...and give you a wave... :salut:

:icescrea: :wav:

Now, for "saying something to save the public 'I believe to be morons'", I was looking at a post once and thinking about getting the part. Then I scrolled down and saw that someone stated that the price was out of line - way high, so I passed on that one. The reply was correct that the price was way high and I appreciated him letting us know before wasting the extra $$$. I don't consider others to be morons until they do or say anything to earn the name. I was once one of those "morons" about to pay too much for a part until someone stated that the price was too high. So you could say that guy kept me from being a moron...

Just a second, I have to fart... :fart: Excuse me...

See, I have ettiquite. I excused myself after farting.

Do you know what's class? Is when you are alone, and you fart :fart: , and you excuse yourself. -- Rodney Dangerfield

I don't agree with these guys that get a part and try to make a foutune/get rich off of it. You know the ones, the guys not in it for the hobby, but to squeeze every buck that they can out of us true hobbyist/enthusiasts. I was at Mopar Nats many years back. I had just become the proud owner of a set of Stage III Max Wedge heads because my friend that I bought them for decided he did not want them anymore because he became interested in a supercharger for his engine. There was a guy at the Nats with a cross ram intake with carbs and linkages, asking $2250 for them. I asked him what he would take for them, and he replied "there is no dealing on high-performance parts." So as I was walking away, I picked up his flier from his table and saw he was looking for a set of Stage III Max Wedge heads. I went back to him and asked "What are you looking to pay for a set of 518 heads?" He asked, "what are those." I replied, "The Stage III heads that you are looking for in this flier." He then said "I would give you $500 for them." I laughed in his face and walked away. The heads were worth as much or more than his intake/carb set up and he only wanted to give me $500 for them - no thanks. He wants everybody to give him dirt cheap (steals) pricing for thier parts and charge you up the wazoo for the parts he has...:thefinge: He is not in this for the hobby, only to make as much money as he can off of the true hobbyist/enthusiast. He is only looking out for himself. I have no use for guys like that. If someone needs a part that I have and am not using, I would give it to him for what he can afford, or in some cases just give it to him free if I was convinced that he was going to use it and not resell it.

But now, my "child like use of the finger emoticon ( :thefinge: :finga: :thebirdm:), Where else am I supposed to use it? It's not appropriate when you are being nice and trying to make a deal with someone, they may become offended. In this case the offense was already there, so I used it. (Besides, I have been waiting for a good opportunity to try it...) So now I stand scolded by you...[-X :eek:ops: However you did not mention anything about the mooning emoticon :butthead: , so I guess that is ok and proper...

But seriously, I'm just having fun with the emoticons. Don't read too deeply into them. Don't take life too seriously, because you're never going to get out of it alive... Have a little fun once in a while. I refuse to grow up.

Growing up leads to growing up and then to dying. Dying to me doesn't sound to be all that much fun.. - John Mellencamp

And with that, Mr. daredevil, I also wish you a good day. And to show that I am sincere, I leave you with some popcorn, ice cream, and a cup of coffee...

:happy1: :icescrea: :coffee2:

:thumblef: :thumbrig:

I think $100 with free shipping and good clean parts is a decent deal. Lots of stuff you find out there for 50-60 bucks is rusted and crusted and you still have to pay $15 to ship. IMO its worth a little extra they are clean and ready to go for a buyer. Its his sale you don't have an opinion if your buying great if not let him alone and to sell his parts. Also if someone is in this hobby and not researching parts and prices thats there own damn fault.

Again good luck with your sale. Ask what you want for your parts because they are YOURS.

If this keeps up,someones getting a time out.If your not buying the parts for sale here, don,t post period. There are rules in place about commenting on peoples ads, read them!
