Street performance tips, 225 slant 6

Hi -Po,

I have a 73 4-dr Dart Custom, too. Based on where you live, the resulting fuel costs and climate, I recommend against headers. It will take away the heat for the carburetor which in turn will make driving on a cold engine worse. The Super Six 2 barrel set-up ought to work well. If you really want power without a big hit to fuel economy, try a turbocharger.

For more /6 info, check www.slantsix.org. There's lots of information and some group buys on /6 goodies, too.

The hesitation when you give it the gas sounds like the accelerator pump on the carburetor is failing, or has failed. I had a similar problem. Most of the rebuild kits do not include parts for the pump. I ended up getting a rebuilt carburetor, which had a good accel pump, and rebuilding it because it was not jetted properly. The carburetor had been re-manufactured by Holley and the Big Box parts store (mass merchandiser) said it was a bolt-in replacement. The bolt-in part was true, but it was not ready-to-use as it was delivered to me.
