Header advice

Wondering what people suggest for headers for a 318 in a '67 Dodge Dart. I heard some brands have clearance issues?
 
Dougs or tti are the only two choices for full length style headers that don't hang low and drag on stuff.

I prefer Dougs
 
Full length Dougs or TTI , I went for Hedman block huggers , tired of flat tubes . Had hooker SS headers and they are pancaked , I'll take the loss of HP just so I no longer have trouble again .
I wonder if anyone with Dougs or TTI have ever pancaked any tubes ? They seem to have good clearance .
 
TTI is my choice but i never personaly tried any dougs,but the dougs i have seen live have looked like a quality product.

im on my second set of TTI´s now and while installing i had my doubts about how those big 1 7/8" primarys was going to fit with powersteering but now that they are installed im very satisfied they are tightfitting but they are clear everywhere and looks great! groundclearance looks good also.
 
Any have any experience with Hooker Headers #5901HKR? The only reason I'm asking is I was offered a set that is brand new for $75.

yup. no different then the other cheap low hanging garbage on the market.

here is the deal. dougs or tti. they are the only two that do not hang low and want to scrape on any little divot on the road. either cough up the cash and get tti or dougs or go with any of the other cheap low hanging garbage out there. thats pretty much all there is to it. you asked, everyone told you tti or dougs and now your asking about the cheap hookers. if they were a recommended header then we would have posted them along with the tti and dougs.

Please reread my post about the hooker headers, I said the ONLY reason I asked is due to being offered them cheaply, I never asked if they were recommended. Simply put I CURRENTLY cannot afford $500+ for simple headers for the dart. I was want to know if they'll do for a cheap pinch until the time I can shell out the large amount for the TTI or Dougs.
 
I say go for it. $75 is pretty cheap for a new set of headers, even if they don't fit perfect like Doug's or TTIs. I'm in the same boat as you, I couldn't condone ponying up the $500+ for the good fitting headers over the cheapies for the time-being.

Be prepared to massage the headers with a hammer and some heat. The last set of headers I put in, which were Summit cheapies, needed clearancing in several spots, but fit okay as far as I'm concerned.

I've never found the low-hanging tubes to be a problem, but I also have a deep sump oil pan and don't drive my car like I drive my Jeep. If I hit the header tubes, I'd also hit the pan.
 
$75.00...Go for it.
Crank the torsion bars up a couple turns, and stay away from speed bumps.
 
They will do , pain in the *** to install and they hang LOW , I have a set on now and they hit everywhere !Ant crossing the road they hit . But they are headers as long as you have no speed bumps , cause no matter how carefully and slow you go they hit , getting into driveway they hit .
But they will do until you need to replace the pancaked tubes . I'll takr pics on monday of how flat the tubes are

thats fine but that also wasn't your original question. yes hooker and the rest of the cheap ones have clearance isues. they hang way low, #5 and 7 plug wires always seem to be brunt because of the way the tube goes over those plugs so closely. personally i would keep manifolds on and save for tti or dougs rather then spending $75 now, fighting to install them and then have them hit everything in sight and then doing it all over again when you get good headers.
 
If I were you I would just wait until you could get Dougs or TTI, I did the cheap header route and it was horrible, and everytime I would scrape it would push up on the headers and loosen the bolts on the collectors, SUCKED!
 
If you are saving money for "good" headers then I would not buy the 75$ ones. Hard to save when you spend it. LOL
 
i bought some expensive hooker super comp ceramic coated for my 71 dodge demon and they had major clearence issues so i went back to stock

Tell me about it , have the SS hookers and they hit everything , only time hookers were good was on my 4x4 440 ramcharger , no cearance fit issues there .
Save the money for some good headers , the leaks and hits are NOT worth it . Use manifolds , these guys know what they are talking about . Unless your streets are super smooth with no speed bumps , or it only gets run on the 1/4 mile strip
 
i love my tti headers i had them on in about 45 mins i loved it i had a set of super comp hookers before took 4 hrs to get them on and they leaked every where and wasnt long before they were smashed flat. dont care how you drive you will drag them flat.
 
I was planning on going with what most people suggested, I just couldn't drop $500 exactly this instant. I was then offered cheap hooker headers and then asked if they would do until I could pick up a set of TTI or Dougs. If hookers are really that bad then I'll stick with the rusty exhaust manifolds until then.

put teh $75 towards the tti or dougs and keep the manifolds for now. not worth the time , expense or aggravation.
 
Another deal, you put the hookers on and hook up the exhaust system, then you get to do that all over again too. Collectors on Dougs and tti are in a different location than the hookers
 
save the $75...had those same headers on my 67 Dart GT...they were flattened in no time and were a complete PAIN to install. Save up for some Dougs...I put them in with no problem at all. Honestly- look at SummitRacing.com and find a price on another website that beats theirs. They matched it and took an additional % off (not sure if it was 5 or 10%). I saved nearly $100 that way.
