I'm working on a 71 duster project for my wife and am in need of a rear end, would like to stay 500 and under on price if possible. So if anyone has one let me know.

I bought a housing for 300.00,a sure-grip 3.23 for 300.00 and I still need axles....
You are better off find one locally from someone that does not know their value.
Why not get a b-body 8 3/4 rearend and move the spring perches in 1/2 inch on each side and then purchase proper back spaced rims for your duster.
It will be cheaper this way.

Put in an 8-1/4 in instead and save about 600.00....They came from the factory behind 1973 340 Dart Sport and are pretty strong.....8-1/4 's are under rated in my opinion....I never had a problem with mine

Thanks guys, I'm trying to work out a deal with a guy close by. He has a complete one but has aftermarket axles that are small bolt pattern. Who knows why anyone would've done that. So I'll have to buy axles and a steeper gear, so I'll still have quite a bit in it, but cheaper than a strange 60 or something like that. What do the 8 1/4's come in that are the same width? Anyone know any cheap disc brake setup for the 8 3/4?

The 8 3/4 are next to impossible to find in my area.I bought a complete C-body rear and had it narrowed, just a thought.

I know the 8-1/4 came factory in my 1973 340 Dart Sport with 3:21 ratio....The axle tag is still on it as a matter of fact...Thw width is the same as far as I know and will fit any a-body, I believe.....I am not sure if they came with the 318 motor also?? Maybe someone can chime in who knows more than I.....I am pretty sure the /6's came with the 7-1/4 rears in A-bodys....

never know what came in what with these cars. the parts car i have outback was a 6 cyl. car and it came with 4 piston disc brakes and a 8 3/4 rear from the factory.

i think people generally aim more for 8 3/4 for parts availability. correct me if im wrong, but i thot finding pumpkins for 8 1/4 were difficult? anyway, i agree get yourself a B or C body 8 3/4 an shorten it. ull hit right around $500 after the machine work is done and you wont have any issues getting the gears and axles

Ford 9, make it fit, cheap trak-loc and parts galore. 4.5 pattern but your disk are probably too--under 500 for sure and you get a 3 bearing carrier. My Mom grew up in Clarksville, Tx, just down the road from you.

8 1/4 axles do not have "pumpkins", only the 8 3/4 does. All other axles have rear inspection covers/plates that remove from the rear for servicing the gears.

Here is an ad posted yesterday for an 8 1/4 with 3.21 sure grip for $400 by 340sport. I have bought parts from him a few times, and he is a good guy to deal with.

I have sevral apart . housings, centers , axles, backing plates and drums, you need to decide what you want to pay shipping for and what you can get in your area. I can assemble what you need without gastkets So you will have to take it apart and seal it when you get it. any gear but 456 or 355's they are all gone. clutch or cne center available. I have a machine shop so I can index small axles to big pattern as well as drums. Shipping will be paid on your end Yellow freight you will pick it up at your nearest terminal. I have been selling these on Ebay like this for a long time. I just stopped dealing with ebays rules. Let me know what you will all need ( a specific list including ratio and hardware) the lighter it is the cheaper on your end. I will then be able to give you a price. only have two or thre housings left. I also have big bolt c axles and 11 inch or 10 inch brakes if desired. going big bolt without small axles drilled you gain a 1/2 inch width per side. Steve

I have an 8.25 now. I was going to put in 3.55 sure grip that my local Proven Force dealer could get. They would cost me $550. If you can find an 8.25, they are usually fairly cheap. Then drop in your own gear set and away you go. Still close to your original hoped for price. I just bought a Dana 60 and would sell you my 8.25 but I promised it to my brother so he could keep his Cuda a rolling chassis.

I have a housing that is made to fit a sping relocated setup. I would have to get it out and check the width. I had it under my 69 Barracuda. I would sell it for 150 as is, no guts just housing.
I am in Fort Worth call me at 8175380138
