I have a 76 duster with a 7-1/4 rear end, I want to swap for an 8-3/4. I've had a hard time finding one locally. the only one I've found is off a 64 fury. I'm new at this, so I dont know if it will match up. Can anyone help. Thanks

When you get your 8.75" axle, be sure to get the shock plate and the clips (U-bolts that sandwich the spring between the axle tube and the shock plate). The axle tubes on the 7¼" are smaller than the 8.75" and the 7¼" shock plates and clips will not work with the larger axle.

fyi... I also had the small axle in my 67 Dart. I could not find an 8 3/4 locally. To make a long story short, I found a guy in Springfield Ohio (he ships) that would build one for my Dart. Then after much discussion, the additional cost to have him build a Dana 60 was only $300. The axle he built came with backing plates, Yukon axles, any gear ratio I wanted, new bearings, track-lock, etc etc. It was complete and bolted right in. The total cost was less than $1,400. Just something to think about.

I know the Dana 60 is over kill, but I love the "old school" look that it gives my dart.

Good luck in your searches....

The largest you can go is an early B body rear, 44" on center spring perches. They need to be moved in 1/2" on each side to bolt up. You will need the shock plates as well as the 7 1/4 won't fit.

Any chance you have a name and number for the man in Springfield, OH?? I live only a hour and a half from there. Would not mind getting one built for my dart.

Thanks!!
