20,000 miles ago I got sage3 in frame at Stuart Stevenson in Dallas,it comes with a 2 year 200,000 warranty. It never ran right and they left off my cam cover which slung oil all over the front of the mtr.6weeks later it really running like crap so I go to Freightliner (honors warranty) and the cant find it and charge me 158 bucks and put a fuel filter on it.As soon as I left it got worse ,so I took it to a Western Star dealer in Bessemer Al.The looked at it for 4hrs and think its one of my injectors but without a code Detroit won't do nothing.Western Star said since they cant fix it no charge.(earned my respect.).I cant stand my truck missing and fluttering and go to United Engines in Tulsa(Detroit). The charge me for a busted wire in my injector harness 315 bucks. It still was fluttering so I came back. The run another injector test and #4 was way low so Detriot let them change it,still not running. It was Friday and the are closed for the weekend.Monday morning they go to do all the injectors and the Mechanic tells me he is very embarrassed he did not find the problem earlier and how stupid he feels.Turns out the #4 lobe on the bump stick is worn and so is my rocker arm.All covered on Warranty.I've lost 6 days of being home or making money.Hopefully this is it.

I know how you fell about so called mechanics I have a 600 cat in a pete and if it goes to a cat dealer you can see the doller signs in there eyes....Artie

Sounds like the infamous 1978 small block Chevy wiped out cam lobe due to insufficient hardening.

My M-I-L had the same problem on her 78 Pontiac Grand Am with a 350 Chevy motor.
Of course, somebody who will remain unknown, stuck a rather healthy cam in it.
Father In Law took it for a ride and stood on it only to find the rear tires going up in smoke.

Wiped injector lobes used to be a problem on the old 855 Cummins for a while.

Glad you did the detroit rebuild and had a warranty!!!!

It runnin and pretty dam good too!I'll never go back to Detroit in Dallas. It runs way better than When I picked it up from the in frame

I ran one in a 2003 freigh classic XL
never ran a truck so much fuel consommation and lack of power
a friend of mine hade 500 dedroit in fld120
could play with me al day and even night long
4 miles per gallon and was pulling a 4 axles tankers
loaded to 57500 Kg

he was pulling on the same treiller than me and was
making over 5 miles per gallon

so no more cat for me at least c16

How many miles you got on that series 60? I'll bet when Stupid & Stevenson did the inframe on it, they re-used your old cam. We run a fleet of series 60 Detroits, and cam lobe wear is an issue I see. That's the problem on electronic engines, mechanics have forgotten to look at the mechanical part of the engine, and always go right for the electronics. Oh well, give me an 8V-92T-500 detroit and I'll take it to the moon & back.

A Series 60 is one of the best engines ever made. Factory support is getting expensive though. I have a DDEC V core engine to rebuild as replacement for the fleet. S&S, Smith, Valley Power just want to sell you an engine and sometime do a poor job of that.
