I am putting a 440 into a '70 Dart that had a 318. My questions are i already noticed that the transmission plug is different from the 904 to the 727 so what can I do? Is there any other potential electrical hook-up problems that anyone has had with this engine swap? Any and all help is greatly appreciated, You can also e-mail me at d.feltes@worldnet.att.net so I see it quicker. Thanks Dave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

???? What's different? It should be round with 3 wires for both trans's. If it's 2 wires, do you have std. trans pedals in the car? 1 wire would be 68 and under.

No I have automatic trans. I did some checking today at the local NAPA store and found out that the sender that is broke is for the back-up lights (no big deal). But they are different, a 727 plug has 3 pronge hook-up and a 904 has 2-pronge not to mention they are different in size the 904 is smaller and won't screw in. Which still leaves my problem with the trans. wiring harness not fitting a 727 3-prong sender. Do you know of any other wiring harness problems in the motor compartment converting the 318 harness to a 440 motor? Thanks Dave!!!!!!!!!!

Dave most the wiring harness works without any problems. To make things look nice I did shorten and or lengthen the odd wire but in all very easy. I went from a 74 318 4 sp, to 440 Auto and my neutral safety was built into my shifter. I don't remember about the reverse lights, but don't remember having trouble with it.

The 3 wire plug/switch is the neutral safety switch. The 2 wire plug is for back up lights on a 3 or 4 speed. There is a 3rd wire that runs to a switch on the clutch pedal which is the safety switch on the std trans cars. I have done the 904 to 727 swap and never seen what you discribe.

Here's a link to a 74 Valliant wiring diagram. Note the top of the 2nd page for the neutal safety switch. http://www.bigblockdart.com/index.php/topic,17549.0.html

I'm with the other guys...Your parts place looked up a manual trans rev light switch. On all torqueflites after '68, they combine the rev light and nuetral safety switches into one 3 prong deal.
