Anyone know if there are places that will put the color I need aka JY3 into spray cans mixed with clear already, so all I need to do is the stripping, prepping and priming?

Your local auto body supply store should be able to pack spray cans with the color you need. It is usually $10-$15 a can plus the cost of the paint.

mixed with clear?

you should be able to go to your local paint supply shop, tell them what paint you want, and that you want it in a ready to spray aersol form.

its not mixed with clear I don't think......just basically a high gloss single stage. Will work good for engine bay, door jams, trunk and what not.

OR you can buy the paint you want in single stage form and I am sure somewhere near you ....maybe the local paint supply shop....(atleast here they do) sells a reusable canister with spray nossle on it.....all you do is mix your paint, pour it into the container, screw the spray nossle on, hook your air chuck to the valve stem on the canister and pressurize it....then remove the air chuck and you have a portable spray gun.

I was thinking maybe 2 coats at least. But james aka mopardude318 told me that they make paint with clear in it because clear is hard to spray.

I believe I only need 1 qt for the engine bay and I want the clear mixed in already. Maybe ill call a place tomorrow, I do live in a industrial area with two paint shops walking distance.

I painted my entire engine bay in base clear with about a half quart unmixed (quart mixed) .....that was 3 coats base,3 coats clear.

if you do clear coat it....make sure you run a few coats of clear so you have room to cut and buff if need be.

buy yourself a cheap spray gun and shoot it with single stage acrylic urethane. if you do all the prep work its crazy to use a spray can. i knew nothing about using a gun till i painted the engine bay on my dart, now i shoot all kinds of stuff.

i had never used a gun until i sprayed this engine bay, and i was half in the bag

did this one too, both single stage.

Same here....I was just a novice painter....didnt know much at all about it.

heck....still am no expert.

But I busted out my gun and compressor and painted my bay myself and it came out great!

and like mentioned....if you put alot of time into the prep work you might aswell do your best to spray it with as good as a quality set up as you can.

here are some pictures of mine.

sorry for all the pictures. hope it give you an idea of what your up against.

Since you are in anaheim there is a sherwin Williams auto paint store in Santa Ana I think off grand

I believe Automotivetouchup.com has spray-can clear. It's not the single-stage spraycan stuff you originally asked about, but if you are still interested in rattle-canning it then you could find your color (in a can) and then hit it with clear (in separate can). I used it on my Dakota's sideview mirrors with no major issues 3 years later.

Dusterdude's engine bay sure looks pretty.
