Just wondering has anyone out there tried the Pypes stainless steel exhaust kit for the A body ? It is around $430 shipped or should I just use the Summit A body exhaust kit that is almost $200 cheaper.

Cant speak for the pypes system but I have the summit kit on my 72 duster and it is a great set up .....very happy with that purchase.

sounds awesome too!

only thing I will probably change is I will upgrade to a welded chambered set of mufflers eventually....the ones they summit includes in the kit are just a tad too quite than I PERSONALLY like.

I just made my own. Header extensions to 3in x pipe to headers and turn downs

+1 on the summit kit, it sounds 'classy'. I ended up doing a little custom cutting, but that was more for me than anything, it was bolt in, and looks great.

Whatever setup you do use, do yourself a favor, and weld in a H pipe, you can do it yourself, mock it up and mark it WELL.

X not h...dont care..look at the results that you can find.

im getting the pypes 2.5 inch exhaust with x-pipe for my 68 cuda. im only getting a few parts from them though..the x-pipe for an A-body, the collectors, and violator mufflers that have the in and out on the same side of the exhaust like the challenger T/A exhaust...it will exit in front of the rear tire...

230 bucks is hard to beat for a complete exhaust system! Even tho it comes with the "turbo" mufflers maybe they will do a susbtitution for "better" mufflers. I went with Patriot sidepipes but if I hadn't it would have been the Summit complete dual system.

i used summitts on my 69 cuda with dougs headers fit great and sounds nice

I am 1/2 way done with the Jegs setup, same as the summit, I went without the turbo muffs, as I had turbo's on before, I got a set of Big Boar muffs to go with the kit and I also bought the "H" pipe kit and a set of the cutouts, as I am installing Electric cutouts so far I have been able to do this with my harbour freight mig welder as the only place I want the muffler clamps is on the mufflers, I am taking before and after pics, and will post when done. sooo I say go with the summits and save some$$$ I had regular steel pipes installed in 1983. these are replacing that system. I paint my pipes black, the SS looks awsume but they are $$$ IMO

I bought the pypes 2 1/2 stainless kit with the violater mufflers and the x pipe. Im using the kit with TTI headers. I really wanted the TTI kit but was way out of my budget. I havent installed the kit yet. I have opend up the box and it looks to be put together really well. I know my money was well spent. Just my .02

Thanks for the replies. I already have my dougs headers for my 360 and I was hoping I would hear from a few people that had the Pypes S/S exhaust already installed to help me decide.

I think the summit stuff is made by heartthrob exhaust. That being said,it is good value for the $$,but iof you plan on doing any shows I'd get stainless.

If you have a set of headers other than what it's set up for, you'll be cutting up the front tube to get it located at the header collectors.

I had to make some pretty decent changes to the summit kit using Dougs/tti headers. Not too tough, just a bit of time.

Take your time and it should go OK.

I enjoyed installing the stainless X Pypes system on my Dad 67 Chevelle. Nice fit and look.

Go stainless , never have to worry about the pipes again , unless they are a very thin wall cheap stainless . Had a cheap set of stainless headers rust through in 10 years , they were very thin 409 and never driven in winter or rain . Rusted from inside out . Good stainless will last , had a Borla system on my explorer for 7 years and 480,000 km of winter and summer driving , pipes were only thing not rusted through on the truck !

I will post pics but I have been so busy lately I havent gotten to the car for a while. Plus Im doing a new hemi swap so the exhaust wont be going on for a while.

if this helps.,,, early spring pypes had an open house, not what i expected but,,,they claim there systems are warrantied as long as YOU own the car,,but what i didnt ask,,,some syatems do not sell as much as others,,,so they discontinue that system,,not sure how they warranty it then,,,,during the tour,i asked,,,can we see manufractureing,,,he said um,,,well,, um,,,,we make the first set here for fit ment,,and um,,well um,,,they are made um,, oh yes off shore,,,i said just say it CHINA,,lol

well I made my mind up. I saw a Craigslist ad for Plymouth A body parts so I called the guy. I bought a entire TTI exhaust including the tips and hardware ( minus mufflers),TCI torque converter, and TCI shift kit for $400. All of it is brand new.

I just bought the abody x pipe and violator mufflers. The mufflers work well, but the x pipe was a disaster. Not one piece of it lined up right. I ended up not using it at all.

I used Jegs version of this kit, not sure if it is Pypes or Heartland or whom-ever, in 2 1/2". Kit was for a 67-up car and I installed it on my '65 Valiant w/318 and Spitfire headers. Total cut and paste deal front to rear. I used a home made H-pipe and ran the exhaust to the back bumper with stock style turn-downs. I have a hell of a resonance from 45 MPH to 60 MPH, much worse with the windows closed. This is with the provided generic "Turbo" mufflers. That is the only complaint I really have, other then that the system is very mellow sounding.
