I would never use anything but the braid. You could paint it flat black, or take a peice of 5/8 heter hose and slit it's entire length, and slip it over the line and fittings. I've done both and it makes it invisible without possibility of cracking or abrasion. Do not use hard line for it anywhere other than solenoid to plate.
