Out of all the A-body manifolds what pn's are the best flowing? I would assume it is the late 340 ones but not sure. I was looking at them on ebay, and boy they sure look identical to my 73' 318 ones. They will be going in a 65 dart. Just figure the later ones must be better than the earlier 273 ones I have on there now. I was looking at headers but decided to stick with manifolds. Thanks!!

Do the 70 manifolds fir an early A-body? The ones that the RH one kinda looks like a header? Those are the ones I would like to use. Was looking at headers, but do not want to cut holes in the inner fenders, and I do not like having my steering shaft pass threw the header on the standard ones.

68-70 are the best. May look similar to the 318s but are not. Alot bigger passages and outlets.

Thanks!
So 71 to say 74 should fit? I will have to do some digging on the 68-70 ones. I wonder if the 71 to 74 manifolds are any better than the 273 ones I have on there now?

yes the 71-up should fit. djvcuda had them on his 66 cuda... yes they should be light years better then the stock 273 manifolds. ever get a 273 manifold gasket and hold it up to a 340/360 manifold port? that 273 manifold will choke the hell out of a 340/360.

Hay thanks! I have never had them off to compare them.

The 68-71 HI PO manifolds fit the early A. Barely.

Could you by chance tell me were the tight spot is with the early hypo manifolds? Just curious, as to weather any thing can be done to make them fit better.

Thanks!!

I had a pair in my 65 Valiant before I put the Doug's headers on. They were just closer on the steering shaft and the passenger fender well, but hit nothing. I also had power steering.

Thanks! Good to know! I also have power steering. But as long as they do not hit, I will have to give a pair a try on my engine I am going to build over the fall-winter.

Thanks!!

Well, I cannot speak for all of them in a blanket statement. They fit mine and were very tight, but did not hit. I know otheres who have made the swap as well. But as tight as the little cars are, I wouldn't be surprised to see you might have to shift the motor around a little one way or the other. So, be advised.

.....If it helps, I did a V8 conversion on my car using Schumacher mounts. that may be one reason mine fit. The Schumacher mounts do sit the engine up higher.

I may just stick with the 71 to 74 manifolds. As they should fit no problem. I wonder if there is any deference in the 318 manifolds those years. My 73 318 manifolds looked identical to the 340 ones. But I never had them off to look at them side by side.

Just found a list of casting numbers. Looks like 71 to 73 318 and 340 had the same drivers side manifold 3614395. But the passenger side is 2843953 for the 318 and 3418623 for the 340. I wonder what the deference in the RH manifold is???

They are different, trust me, I thought they were the same till crackedback informed me and offered proof as to why.

I have a set of the 340 HI-PO manifolds

Dr side - 2863553
Pass side - 2863549

AND the 318 manifolds appear the same BUT they are MUCH MUCH different and those numbers are NOT for 340 HI-PO manifolds.
just sayin

this is what 340 HI-PO manifolds look like

:violent1:Hmmm... early A body exhaust. That is a struggle. After lots of thought, I just saved up my money and bought these TTI's. They are a work of art.

Yea those are nice. But it looks like they are really close on an early A-body.
I was saying that the 318 ones in 71 to 73 have the same number for the LH side as the 340 in 71 to 73. The earlier ones are as you say WAY deferent on the 340. Sure with they fit!

The 340's fit my 65 23 years ago but I remember they were ground a bit on the driver side due to my power steeirng, but my oil soaked motor mounts back then were about as soft as sponges so there might have been some settling or shifting ( I think I even had the later 67's, not the 3" thick 65's) . The early Dakota's are supposed to be the ones to beat and at $50 a set, really hard to beat! Lots of debate on whether they are drop ins, but they look to be close enough to make work.

Nope, they are different, just ask crackedback. Here was our conversation

If you want a verifiable source, I can send you a scan of the manifold page from a 1972 parts manual.

It's all good. And I'd hate to see you sell it only to ship it and have someone ticked at you. Just cost everybody all the way around in the long run.

Is a 318 exhaust manifold not a 340. I'm guessing you got the info from mymopar which is wrong. That list was compiled by someone else and it's a train wreck.

340 manifolds are cast number 3614368

I don't doubt it,
I am just saying that every manifold casting list on the net shows that the 1971 to 1973 LH 340 and the 1972-1973 LH 318 are both 3614395. Seems to me that is what was on my 1973 318. I am sure it is a typo. But sure would like to know which is right. Do not want to get stuck with 318 manifolds, if they are deferent.
