I traded a friend for a 1968 383 minus heads/intake. It has the correct block number 2468130 on both sides, and the date 12.26.68 and the clock as well (noon). But cast into the block on both sides, are the double letters "LL" under the block number and I can't find this in any book. Also, at least on one side the block number is followed by a dash and the number eleven, i.e., 2468130-11. I can't find what that would mean either. The EIN that is supposed to be along the bottom of the block? I'm still looking. On the ID boss to the right of the distributor (facing the front from inside the car) it reads D383 (1968 383 motor), below that it reads,

3 82

then a large

1777 is etched into the boss

I figure it was rebuilt at some time because the oil pan is small block blue as is the timing chian cover while the rest of the motor is turquoise. The guy I got it from said something about the crank being drilled for a 4-speed and not to get rid of the crank.

Any help with explaining the "LL" or anything else would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that the number sequence 2468130-11 refers to the casting process. 2468130 is the casting core number and the -11 indicates the number of revisions that were made to the casting core mold. the revisions could represent changes in the block itself or simply refinishing and bringing the casting core back into specification.

This will help a great deal. I wish I could figure out what the "LL" means under the block number. Yeah, I realized this late casting is for 69. I have a made in 69 block from a Satellite so I guess it is considered a 70 block. Anyway, I appreciate the responses.
