Just a stock 340 short block with the right goodies up top is 400+ HP motor. Will handle way better than a big heavy BB.

My 68 Dart is at the body shop but it will be getting a warm 340 with Hillborn injection

Hemi, Hemi, Hemi.

Did I say Hemi?

Either old school 426 or like mine new school 5.7/6.1

Joe Dokes

A bit ago you were in a bad way and askin for help. None of my beeswax really....BUT that was not long ago. So with that in mind, "I" would do something simple and affordable like a stock bore and stroke 360.

I vote 440 RB because there is no substitute for horse power like cubic inch displacement, stroked! I own a 340 now and to establish it for upper end is difficult. I used to own a 440 RB to establish it to slow down was difficult. In a race a 340 will take a 440 until it hits it's upper power band and that's it the 440 walks away with it, usually about two car lengths. Same with a 351 against a 428. A friend had a 65 Stang with a 289 with thousands of dollars in it and my brother had a (stock) 69 Torino Cobra Jet 4 speed and we ate him up at 3rd gear every time. The Stang would win in the 1/8th every time but never in the 1/4. That is the difference in C.I.D.

What engine does it have in it now. It's a lot less money and hassle to stick with what brung ya to the dance. However if it's a 198 slant let me be the first to tell you to swap it and let me__ be the first one in line to buy your slant! LOL!

If you go big block, running headers is a hassle. And why would you build a big motor and stick wadded up socks in your secondaries, seems running manifolds would be about the same to me!

I built a 440 to replace the slant six in my Duster without consulting anyone ( didn't know about this site ) and then found out to run headers I had to cut the inner body of my car.

They did however make big block k frames and manifolds for your car and you can probably buy them of someone on this site. I understand they can be quite pricey!

My first car had a Oldsmobile Rocket 350 painted all gold--dummy me thought back then factory was the best way to go and I cleaned the whole engine one day and re painted gold, duh.

Right now my 340 is Chevy or Ford red--I forgot--engine shop had no Chrysler red paint had to order it, I said screw it, who cares, paint it whatever red you got, lol
