904 Shifting problem

-
I was reading somewhere that you can’t put 5 clutches in a 4 clutch front drum. Something about the drum splines not engaging all the clutch plates. I did put 5 plates in the front drum. Could this be the source of my troubles.

I put 5 clutches in my 4 clutch drum. I used the thin Red Eagle clutch plates.
I have no problems with it.
You need to take it to a trans shop and have them diagnose it with pressure gauges to know whats happening. As Mark said, "You're just wasting your time".

You should have virtually no governor pressure at stand still (less than .5 psi). The pressure should rise as rear axle speed rises. There is a chart for each application so you can compare speed vs. corresponding pressure in each gear on your particualar transmission. If you have pressure at stand still, you have a governor problem or sealing ring problem in the rear support hub.

Ok today I added an additional quart of fluid to It. The level was already good added the quart anyway. Put a gage on and tested governor pressure. 0psi in park and 0psi through all the gears with the break on at idle. Lifted the rear wheels and checked again. Steady psi increase with RPM increase. Left the gauge on with it inside the car (extended the hose so I could read it while driving)and took it on the street and it did fine so took it on the freeway and did good. Before I couldn’t get it passed 40. Had it on the freeway at 70. Might need to adjust the kick down some more. Still didn’t seem to want down shift or at least not on time. Lot of traffic on the freeway though so couldn’t get on it so much. So still confused. Gonna let it set a few days and take it back out. Thanks for all the help everyone. I'll probably be back on soon. Not convinced the problem gone away.
