I have a 904 Torqueflight in my Duster and wanted to know if anyone had an idea of what rpm is best to shift manually. If I take off at a stop in "1" then i'll shift it into "2" shortly after then into "drive" which is "3". Does anyone know when exactly I should shift would be most effective. How does everyone else do it? Does it make a difference what all has been done to my 318. I have a 340 cam and edelbrock performer intake with 4-barrel if that helps. Thanks

My book say's it should shift into drive around 30 mph on a normal take off.
I set mine up that way and it seems to shift pretty good.

What trans makes no difference be it a 904 or 727. It's up to the engine's capabilities on what RPM to shift at. The best way without using a dyno...Is to go to the local race track and spend a day testing. From what I have learned... the best way to do this is.. 1st run.. shift every shift @ say 4500 rpm , next pass say every shift at 4750 , next pass 5000 rpm, keep repeating till you get to "redline". Pick your best ET from the runs and you should be real close to shifting at the "peak" of your powerband.

Hope this helps. Eric
