"i like the blue"

Pepsi blue... 1964 Valiant (aka the 1965 Notchback Barracuda). Jeff, I have a picture of it when the paint was still fresh dating Jan 03, 2006. I don't have any pre-paint. Wow, it really has been five years hasn't it.

The ex and I bought (she paid) my swinger in '07 for $900, I then bought her out after we broke up for $500 which she needed to pay her taxes that year. ('09?) She had said she would give it (and stalled) to me until tax time came then I realized it was my chance to get the car that I did all the work to and invested in and be done with her. The best $500 I ever spent! LOL

I figure it's at the 8k mark now?

was /6 904 7 1/4 SBP bench seat...
now 318 A833 8 3/4 buckets, rally dash, LBP

1. My 1968 Barracuda convertible 65K actual car stored since 1989 cost me $4500 with 318, Auto, ps, pb, AC, new upholstery, new paint and Chevrolet wheels. It featured the wrong seats, the wrong console (E-Body), the wrong tail lights, the wrong tail panel, the wrong color and them damn Chevrolet wheels.
2. 1967 Barracuda fastback cost $200 with a quote "rebuilt V8 engine" (never have even tried to start it), wrong bucket seats, correct console and rough {bark bark} body.
3. 1967 Barracuda fastback cost $400 with a really slick complete body with bench seats and no drive train.
4. 1969 Barracuda fastback cost $75.00 just before it was crushed. really rough {bark bark bark bark bark} body execpt perfect rust free quarters with parts missing and no drive train.
5. 1967 Barracuda notchback cost $197.50 off eBay. No running gear, no front end sheet metal besides core support and inner fenders but the rest of the body was really nice but all trim and all original interior was gone. Perfect floor pans, quarters, doors and etc... Loaded with newer A body trim and seats.
6. 1969 Dart 4 Door $140.00 missing radiator but otherwise 100% complete. 318, Auto, Air, PS and PB. Again never tried to start.
7. 1968 Dart 4 Door $200 rough 100% complete. 318, Auto, Air, PS and PB. Again never tried to start.
8. 1969 Dart 4 Door $900 Really NICE original 63K miles and two previous owners 100% complete. 318 and Auto. Rides and drives perfect. I spent over 5 years trying to get this one. Did I mention it is nice?
9. 1975 Dart Swinger $85 /6, Auto, AC, Disc Brakes, 8 1/4 rear, rust bucket deluxe. Rode and drove. Cost more to go after it than what it cost.

That is the full list of Mopars that are here today.

When I die my kids say they will crush everything but the convertible. I told them I will HAUNT them.

in 2009 I searched for a couple months looking for a mopar project.....finally found one less than a mile from where i lived in a kids back yard....walked up and said "Hey you want to sell that thing" he said "SURE".

first he wanted to keep the rear end and a bunch of other crap and sell me the car for $300.00

I said...NO I want the car just got it is what will you take? "he said $800.00.

I tried to get him to take $500.00 cash but he would not budge.

so it came time to do the deal and he says "well.......I don't have the title.....I have to get ahold of my dad and have him get ahold of the guy who owned it before me, but if you give me $500.00 you can take the car now and give me the other $300.00 when I get the title".

I said ok....sure lets do it. I had him write me up a bill of sale and off I went.

a few days go by and I don't hear from him.....after a week I call and he says " I am still trying to get my dad to get haold of the guy",after 2 weeks I call and his mom keeps answering and saying he is not home, after 3 weeks my calls are going to the answering machine......after 1 month I am getting "number disconnected".

SO I decided if he wasnt going to be of any help I needed to get something figured out.....so I called around and it seemed as though there was nothing I could do to straighten things out.

finally I got in contact with the local sheriff who just so happened to be a mopar fan and he told me of a "hush hush" form that I would need to get and fill out (basically an application for title.....not a duplicate or abandoned or anything like that......but a fresh title issued in my name.).

so I went to the local secretary of state office told them I need this certain form and the lady looked at me strange like "how do you know about that" lol.....I filled out the paper work, they ran the vin, and 15 minutes later and $15.00 later The duster was finally legally mine for a grand total of $515.00!.

since then I have done a TON to my duster.....still got some work ahead of me but it has for sure came a long way.

for thousands of pictures and all the info on my build.....check out the link in my signature below to my build thread.

What car are those buckets out of? I love them!!!!!

Cool thread! I'm enjoying reading the stories!

My first was a light green / white stripe / white buckets / console /340 automatic Duster I bought in 1982 for $500. Sold it the next year, the only pic I have is one I found in an old photo album from the ad when I sold it in 1983. Last I knew the car was red and still alive and well, in North Central Ohio somewhere...

More recently, I bought my '69 Barracuda FB three years ago, my wife thought I was nuts to pay $9,000 for a car with a blown-up 383 in it!

The clincher was all of the extra parts that came with the car. I sold over $4,500 worth the unneeded parts on ebay, leaving me a solid car with: Schumacher RB mounts and torque strap, 8 3/4 with a fresh 3.91 SG and Moser axles, B-body rear brakes, SSBC front discs, SS rear springs already moved inboard, Mancini driveshaft loop, Competition engineering shocks, all new front end parts including t-bars, Weld Wheels on all four corners, ANCO aluminum radiator, Cheetah 727 reverse manual trans and 3800 stall converter, MSD pro-billet and 6AL box, new fuel pickup and sending unit, etc., etc. for $4500.

It had a '67 nose on it, I now have restored correct '69 grilles for it, new carpet, bumpers, etc. still in boxes, and a 498 RB stroker sitting on the stand. I wheeled and dealed for the $$$ to build the engine over a period of 8 years (bought the new 4.15 crank in 2003... time flies!).

Some examples of the wheeling and dealing - starting with nothing, I got a $1,000 finder's fee from a guy who bought a Superbird I found in a guy's shed. I bought a fresh '69 B-Body Dana 60 with that $1,000, sold the Dana on ebay for $1850. Bought a clean roller '69 Chrysler 300 2-door for $810, spent another $500 on a solid but beat-up '77 New Yorker, pulled the 440/727 out of the New Yorker and put it in the 300, ebayed the NYer shell to a derby guy for $440, e-bayed the 300 to a guy in Finland for $2500. That left $3480. Bought a rough '69 Charger for $1,000, sold it 7 hours later for $2500. That brings the total up to $4980. Lather, rinse, repeat. I've bought and sold cars / parts cars and other miscellaneous Mopar stuff since 2002 and my stroker motor has basically been built for free! :D

First pics were when I picked the car up, before I had converted the carport to a garage. Last pic is the car as it sits (waiting for paint) with the motor on the cradle. Maybe next summer?

Newest one - bought last week. Patience paid off after chasing the car for 6 or 7 years through a couple of different owners. The previous owner passed away and his wife wanted quick cash for his collection of cars. I paid $4,000 for it.

Well got my first and only A body for $1300 when I was 19 with 16,439 miles on it. It was 1.5 years old when I got it. It's a 1967 GTS Dart 2 DR HT 4 speed. Second oldest vin on the GTS registry. The original owner I got it from said he got it from Mr. Norm's dealership. I have to get the information from the Chyrsler Historical to find out if it was purchased from Norm but it's likely since the guy live near his dealership.

I don't have any photos handy in digital format of what it looked like when I got it. I took a guy with me who live a few doors down to check out the car. He was machinist/hot rodder and knew a lot more about car than me. The car ran real rough, bad miss in right bank. He said worst case was a bad valve and to buy it. So I did. When I got it home he said "before you do anything else take off the rocker arm cover and take a look". I did and found a push rod sticking thru a rocker arm. So fix was easy and I didn't even pay for the parts. Guy down the street worked for dealer ship and warranteed the parts. Car was my daily driver until I got out of college.

$750 from a guy who's son had owned it before he was killed in an accident. The man drove it to work for awhile after that.

A slant 6 car with scary brakes and big-time wander at highway speeds.

I paint 3k for my Dart Sport and 800 for my Gold Duster parts car plus probably 1500 in parts and labor. Not bad for how much car I got with a new paint job and fresh drivetrain.

I paid a lot for this Australian RT Charger in 2007, and when I say a lot I mean a LOT, spent appox another 60K on the resto since.
