My 1979 Brazilian Dodge Dart is now going home !!!!

Hi Buz,

That's a really nice little Dart you have there.

So, your family owned it since it was new, and then gave it to a museum?

Did you have to buy it back, or did they no longer have the need to keep it and just gave it back to you? That's quite the story.

It's nice to see the Mopar family reaches such fine places as Brazil. Maybe we can make it down there one day.

Comoxian,

Our family bought this Dodge quite new back in 1981 and kept it in perfect & original shape until 1998 when the museum guys offered a great sum of money for it.
Last year they had serious problems with the government and all cars were auctioned, including the Dart...I went to buy it back for our family, it was very exciting to have this real piece of history back in our garage !!
Hope to write an article to tell al the "saga" that was to have this car back...
If you decide to come here it'll be a pleasure to take a ride in our baby Dart !!!

I was once told by someone who lived in Brazil that the original dies for the sheetmetal stampings on the last Darts was rotting in a field outside the Chrysler factory there, do you know anything about it? Cool car and story for sure, I have been following the Brazillian Darts for years now and they are quite rare to find!

Rhino,

Unfortunately you're absolutely right...The original dies, stamps, and all sheetmetal that was used for Chrysler of Brazil were scrapped after Volkswagenwerk decided to take the brand off the market. I believe this happened some years after the line was finished and dismantled, back in early 1981. Today all Dodges are very rare here and we strongly believe that less than 10 percent of them survived from the long misuse & damage done through the eighties & nineties...
And believe it or not, les than a hundred thousand cars were made by Chrysler here for twelve years of production, from 1969 till 1981...
We have a big friend and great Dodge enthusiast called Alexandre Badolato, and this guy found the LAST A-BODY DODGE DART PRODUCED IN THE WORLD !!!
It was a 1981 Onyx Black Dart Coupé serial number 93008, made somehow to be sold to the government but never came close to that since it was very used & abused by some crippled crazy guys that takes it to burnout shows in the middle of Brazil...It was completely underrated and almost destroyed, but Alexandre found it by accident during his thorough research on Brazil's central traffic department, trying to see where this Dart could be...Luckily enough to get it back and restore it from head to toe, now he proudly show this gem to our major classic car meetings.
Here in this link you may find his story:

http://www.allpar.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=111468

He made a closed place to store more than 40 cars that spans all Dodge Dart heritage & history, from 1969 through this car, including all versions available, and soon we hope to have this "A-Body Paradise" open for public...

Hope to finally meet this Dart & so many other Mopar rarities at the end of this year when I'll go to São Paulo to visit some good fellas !!!

Very, very cool, Buzian! Glad to know the last Dodge Dart produced was saved! I will make a trip down there with no problem when the collection is opened up. I have 13 Darts myself and have had over 300 since 1978 and still have my first one, a 69 383 4-speed GTS. I own a 70 Valiant VF Ute from Australia and would love to have a Brazilian A-Body, but that would be tough! I have looked at a couple of Mexican Darts, but haven't purchased one yet. Thanks for sharing!

Rhino,

I assume you're the A BODY MOPARMAN !!

When the exposition will be open I'll let you know for sure !!
Alex Badolato bought some "foreign A-Bodies" too...He has a 1967 Dart two-door post all original with the 13 inch wheels and the Slant six under the hood, the basic of the base Dart available, a Black 1968 273 V8 four-door Sedan and a 1967 Dart convertible, astonishingly beautiful, among other cars...He's a real A-Body fanatic guy and a very fine person too !!
If you may wish to have a Brazilian Dart in your collection I suggest two models: a 1971/1980 Charger R/T or a 1979/1981 Magnum/LeBaron models, all of them has some different touches from the original american Dart project...
If I can help it'll be a pleasure !!

Hi fellas !!

The sun is shining strong and spring is coming here in Brazil, so I took some cool shots on our baby Dart, hope you enjoy the show !!!
