I have a 74 dart sport and would like to have the rear bumper set in closer to the car. I have read there are modifications I could make but, I was also told I could use 70-72 brackets from a duster. True? If so, do I need a different bumper as well or would the bumper original to my car work with these brackets? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

i know u could make any thing work with just but any thing but im not sure if would be ez'er but heres a bump maybe some one that knows more then me jump in

I think what erobbins wants to know is is he can use his existing bumper with the 70-72 Duster brackets and just bolt the bumper back onto the car. Unfortunately, I don't have that answer for him; but I'm sure another member will.

Thanks for the bump guys. That's exactly what I would like to know. If and when I find bumper brackets for 70 to 72, can I use my 74 bumper or are the holes for mounting going to be totally off? Thanks again.

I've got some ideas about how to on the front bumper of our 74 Dart Custom (Lump). Sometime this week I'll have Lump on some stands and see about tucking that front bumper back towards the car more and delete the front bumper filler. That filler is a piece of crap anyway.
I was looking at cutting an inch out of of the bump shochs somehow.
I'll have to take a closer look.
I asked Yard Dawg about some 71 or 2 interchange brackets and he said he wasn't sure either. He's my guru so I'm on my own too.
Good Luck
If I come up with anything I'll post on "Lump's" restore thread here on FABO.
John.:D

Thanks John. I too have some ideas on making adjustments on my current brackets. I will do some more research on the bumpers themselves and check back here. Surely someone knows if the back bumper on a 72 Duster is the same or different than that on a 74 Dart Sport.

the best way to answer a question like this, is to try it yourself and see how it works
then report back here with your findings

There was an article in Mopar Muscle about 3 maybe 4 years ago. The editor picked up a red '75 Dart Sport and he used different brackets and installed a Duster bumper on the rear for that "closer" look. It looked stock when I saw the car close up at Carlisle. Check out their resto on the car, I am sure you can find the specifics.

i was thinking of doing the same thing on my 72, as well as mold them in but i was thinking maybe just cut out a strip of the brakets, if you can weld or know someone who can i feel like this is the easiest route imo.

unfortunately i too am not sure of the braket swap. good luck finding that out.

I don't think they will bolt right on there. The later bumpers have a different bracket on the back. Could just mod your brackets or shock mounts. What ever you have. Or use a set of 70-72 brackets with a 70-72 bumper.

thanks for the info everyone. Caferacer, I don't have any other bumpers or brackets other than the ones for my car so experimenting would be a little tough. I just wanted an idea before I screwed something up. I will give an update after I tackle this. Thanks again. Good looking car, Brian!

Conclusion is to go with a 72 duster bumper and brackets. I need to replace the bumpers anyway. AMD has the 72 duster rear bumper for $299 and the brackets for $90. Will look for some used brackets. I'm know I saw some for sale on here.

Thats what I am doing on m 75 Duster. I am gong with a glass umper and making my own light weight bumper mounts but stock ones will work too. May have t drll some ewholes in the car for the mouts to bolt t ut should not be hard to do at all.
