I have a 1408 Edelbrock performer carb. When I press on the accelerator it bogs. I replaced the accelerator pump, and cleaned out the passage to the primary "squirter jets". I can see it squirt when I open the throttle. I am a novice mechanic so any help would be great.

Thanks, E

May not be the carb...have you checked for proper ignition advance, namely vacuum advance? If the vac advance isn't working, you will get a bog as well.

I don't know about the float levels. I will also check into the vacuum advance. I did get a backfire once, which I assume is timing related. Thanks for a place to start.

I had the same problem with not one but two eddy carbs and finally threw the damn things in the trash and went to a holley and have never been happier. All I had was one problem after another with the eddy and won't waste my money on anymore of them. And by the way both were new not used, way too much adjustments for anything new out the box. Just my opinion no feed back please. To each his own.

I have heard that about the Edelbrocks. I came on the car and when I can get enough money I will probably get a holley.

Did it always do this or has it just started? If you gat the car and it always done it the jets may be one size small or large.

It has always done it. The accelerator pump was definitely bad, it wasn't squirting gas at all, but that's been replaced. I am going to see if the vacuum advance diaphragm is doing anything next.
