Hi, my favorite vehicle was my 1985 Dodge D150 Pickup with a Slant-6 engine, Four on the floor, and a shortbed. I drove it for Nine years until it had over 140,000 on the "clock". Sadly, when it developed a clogged Catalytic Converter, a sub-standard mechanic did other damage to it. It was sold in 1998 to a guy who said he was going to rebuild it.... I wonder if it's still around today??
1985 Dodge D150 Pickup .... 140,000+ miles (as of 1998) possibly still going?????
What stories do you have out there?? Thanks, Jon

No reason I can't make it to 200,000 in my '98 Plymouth then (nearly 180,000) now!!! It's no Slant-6, but it's been a great car.

I had a 64 Savoy with just over 200 000 miles. Best motor ever. Are they becoming rare? Most of these cars now have big blocks in them. I would love to find an original 2 door sedan with a push button and just drive it.

I rebuilt mine somewhere over 300,000....speedo cable broke just over 300,000 so I did not know the exact mileage.
Too much smoke and finally tossed a rod. I made it 44 miles toward home with the rod knocking! This was the orange '72 Valiant.

I have a similar story. I was driving a 80 Diplomat and somehow the slant six grenaded the #1 connecting rod straight out of the block. It made a hole big enough to put a fist through. It ran terribly but made it fifteen or so miles back to the house.

2 years later, I am still curious about how this happened. I never ran it hard and kept the fluids changed regularly. I am guessing that the old woman that had the car never changed the oil in it EVER and it sludged up the bottom end; thus starving the bearings??

I can not officially confirm my mileage as my speedo broke long before I got it. I spoke with the original owner who told me in 72 when it was sold he had ALOT of miles He thought it was around 150,000. The woman that bought it from him registered it till 93 so say 10,000 a year which would be low. Would be 210,000 so roughly 360,000 miles. The engine had been rebuilt at least once before I got it. I rebuilt the top end last year and she is now running like a dream.

I had 280K on my '78 PU before a guy made be do custom body work on his passenger side doors with my front end. That was about 6 years ago. Sold the engine and last I heard it's still running fine. Sure do miss that truck. I've heard others claim 500K on one with no more than a valve job.

My dad had a 66 plymouth fury he bought new and it ran fine at 180,000 miles when it traded it in.
Quaker state straight 30 weight.

It's not unheard of.

Had one that slung the rod through the side of the block while a friend was borrowing it.

Next one didn't toss, but developed bad rod knock. These two were probably very tired anyway.

The third was a friend's car which only made it 145,000 before losing a rod bearing.

I'll agree a slant is tough but I've seen more of those blown or knocking than I have 318's.

285k on mine
My mom bought it in Jan 80 with 35k on it. most of the miles were put on by me.

not the whole truck but the slant i limped on for a year or two came out of my buddies 81 d100 with 450k on it when it was swaped for a 318 the slant smoked badly but ran for prolly 20 maybe 30k when it was in my dodge and i pulled it cause it didnt like starting when cold but with some ether it would fire up

WE are talking slants, not vulvas or rams.bet my ex wife had close to a million miles on her, inches at a time. And I only put on the middle couple thousand.Wilfred

I have a perfectly running 1969 Plymouth Fury I, that has 'at least' 200,009 on the engine, which wasnt treated well before I got it in the late 70's. Runs like a top and lots of torque still.

My 63 has 98 K on it and in 2k more mile it will have 0 again :)

I did get 250 K out of a 2.2 turbo Z.

I bought a 66 Signet from another FABO member in August. Looking at the body and the under carriage when it was delivered, I thought it was an 86,000 car. Upon reading through the stack of info in the glove box, I found a small notebook that had every oil change recorded for 186,000 miles. The transfer slips between the four previous owners and a huge stack of repair receipts were also there. The Chrysler Service card is still in the fender pocket with the original owners name. I haven't tried to start it yet, but I did pickup a 44,000 mile 66 Valiant post car motor to drop in when I repaint it. From what I see here, that 186,000 mile motor is just getting BROKE IN!!! I have owned three other 225 slants: 66 Valiant 200 4 Door (1st car), 72 Dart Swinger and a 72 D-100 Dodge Shortbed. Didn't keep any of them long enough to put the kind of CRAZY miles on like some of you!!!

i had a '66 valiant 4-door that had over 226K miles on the 225 before it met its end. i was the last of many owners so i'm not positive it wasn't rebuilt. but, considering it was bleeding like an oil fountain from every possible seal and plug i'm going to assume it was original.

it was white w/ red interior. awesome car and engine! terribly slow though.

Agreed, I used to know of an old 70 Barracuda that this woman that worked at a 7/11 drove as her daily. It was white with blue interior. Bucket seats with no console but it was a slant and a floor shifted 3 speed. I would love to find one of the original slant E body cars cause everyone that has had one throws a big block in them and they are a dime a dozen at car shows.
