I am looking into a buying a Mopar 360 (71) with J heads ( Large Intake Ones ) New Mopar Purple Cam .450 Lift and new springs, i was wondering if $600.00 is asking to much for it. I need a motor and was wondering if this is a good price. What other question should I ask the motor guy about the motor, he is going to call me back soon and talk more about it.

Thanks

well....JunkYard cores cost $150-$300....for unwanted year 318's/360's.
If it is semi-fresh (less than 10,000 miles)...has valve covers, intake and carb, front timing cover, harmonic balancer, and water pump and a oil pan on it....I doubt you could get a better deal.

Machine work, and assembly are quite expensive.

Personally..... I would not pay $600 unless I heard it run and seen a compression check of all 8 cylinders.

Questions to ask:

How much Machine Work did the block get (heads been deck'ed?, cylinders bored, line hone, new cam bearings?)
What internal Mods does it have? (HV Oil Pump, Timing Chain tensioner)
How many miles are on it?...how much run time?
What else is included with said engine?....mounts? Flex Plate? Exhaust Manifolds/Headers? Extra's?

with J heads ( Large Intake Ones )
The heads runners only come in 2 sizes. J heads are large size runners and only come as large size runners vs. the 273/318 heads, because they cam on 340/360 engines.

273 and 318 engines have the smaller runners and valves.

He's referring to the size of the valves not the runners meaning they have 2.02 Valves :glasses7:

Sounds like a smoking deal.....can you hear it run....????? If not it's kind of a crap shoot...IMO

Usually if it sounds to good to be true it usually is.....but in this economy who knows....some people are giving they're **** away.....best of luck if you do decide to grab it..... :glasses7:

I am going to talk more to him this weekend, he is sending pictures and a list of things that come with the motor. I know it may need work but for a core and the heads may be worth a look at. He did say that it does come with a new cam, chain and springs all new in box. All the caskets for a rebuild also, I will keep all posted to this as I found out more.

Thanks for all your help....
