Going to be running a comp XE282S solid flat tappit cam in a 340 im building. What is the best oil to run in order to avoid premature lobe wear?

Search oil threads. This question has been asked hundreds of times. Tonys right about zddp but its in vr1 racing oil, brad penn and others. just look at the labels of your high end oils.

heres a good read on oil. zddp is needed but too much is not good

Schaeffer oil. Available online or at local dealers.

The 7000 oil has 1600 to 2000 ppm of zinc:

Schaeffer 7000 tech data sheet

Been using it for decades. The website has a retailer locator as well as an online store - or just call them up.

B.

I use elf/total 5-40 synthetic and add a bottle of zddp for insurance . So far 10,000 miles no problems .

if u stay with brad penn, joe gibbs oil, youll be fine.....

Brad Penn times 2. They have a break in oil also. This is what I have used in my new motors. It might be overkill but I also add a bottle of Comp Cams break in additive for flat tappet cams.

My machinist/engine builder will warranty my short block only if I run Brad Penn oil. He builds quite a few race motors.

Found a local machine shop only 15 miles from my house that sells Brand Penn (multiple weights, not only 20W50) . May try that out. Havnt found any Schaffers dealers near me yet. Have a buddy that swears by Royal Purple in his solid roller 408. Thanks for all the input.

The local Mopar speed shop only sells Brad Penn. Problem is they usually only sell 20W-50 which I think may be a tad thick. Might be costing some HP - but that is what I am running in the 340 and will run in the 416. Both currently comp 508 purple cams with flat hyd lifters.

20w/50 if you heat your oi pan before starting

says who?

No you dont.
that is not something u have to do, we're talking muti viscosity oil's here...'20w'

no body should be telling anyone they have to run this or that weight.

''heat your oil pan''....thats a good one.:hello2:

All I run is 20 50w, Im not looking to trade film strength or viscosity for 1/2 a hp, i make plenty already.

I use this Rislone supplement, and Valvoline Durablend 10w-30 in my 412, thats my .02
