Easy way to make your shifts later.
I have seen a few people ask about thier shiftpoints being too early, so I thought I would post a solution for them that is easy and easy to undo or adjust.
I have been running this for months on my own car because under normal driving my tran would be in 3rd by time I was doing 20.:banghead:
Of course this method only works on trans with a kickdown rod and not cable.
Notch the end of your kickdown rod just a bit on the end towards the radiator.
Cut to size and install a spring strong enough to make the throttle presure rod lead the throttle by about 1/4 inch.
One end of the spring will go in the little grove you cut in the end of the rod, and the other around the throttle rod pin on the carb linkage.
As you can see in the pics below that are in sequence that at zero throttle the kickdown rod is back a little further than the pin that moves it.
This way all the way up to about 3/4 throttle the trans thinks you are pressing the gas 25 percent farther that you really are and compensates with later firmer shifts, and still lets the throttle open all the way.
It will also move your kickdown points a little earlier. (Passing gear comes in sooner)
I didn't want to install a shift kit in my car or mod the governor just to make the trans shift just a little later and firmer and this works really well, and can be adjusted or removed very easily.
Go from shifting at 10-15-20 to 15-20-25 or higher depending on spring strength.
I would recommend starting with about a quarter inch then you can shorten the spring for more tension as you test.
