Hey all.

I'm looking to convert my car from power brakes to manual brakes (73 dart swinger, 340 4-speed; Front disc, rear 10"x2-1/2" drums. All new braking components all around). I know I will need a new master cylinder. It looks like the option is either a softer pedal with more movement (small diameter master cylinder) or harder pedal with less movement (larger diameter). Would somebody mind offering advice on which works better? Also, what diameters are available?

Next,
I know I will need a manual brake pushrod for my existing pedal. Does anybody have one of these pushrods laying around? If so, I'd be interested in buying.
Thanks

I'm also interested in doing the same for my '72 Duster.

IMO, the manual brakes, especially with front discs, aren't bad. My Duster doesn't have power brakes, and I don't even notice. The Barracuda with the tiny 9" drums is a different story.

Did you guys use the larger or smaller diameter master cylinder?

and Sport_360, it looks like both of those kits would still need the manual brake pushrod. Neither listed any information regarding it being a conversion kit. Unless I missed something?

I'll have to list my request in the car parts wanted section.

Brewers has them in case a member does not have one to sell to you.

Scuba, thanks for the link.

Still, I'm having trouble bringing myself to pay $40 for a rod that is exactly like the one I have, just shorter. If any of you can confirm the overall length of the pushrod (6-1/2" per Brewers), I will just cut it and reweld it myself. How hard could it be? lol

Thanks all for your help on this too. I appreciate it.

I used a 74 dart mater cyljnder (power) and braking was no problem.

Can anybody confirm that pushrod length of 6-1/2"? I can't imagine Brewers would be wrong but I'd like to know before I cut.
Thanks.
