did any of the 318's come stock with forged cranks??????? Don't think so but someone told me that there were some.

Seems to me like I remember reading in one of my Mopar bibles that they did have forged cranks until 73. If you have a crank your not sure of just look at the parting line. If it's thin and rough it's a cast crank. If the parting line is wide and smooth it's a forged unit.

318-3 motors out of trucks usually had them. Also I think all '64-'67 273 had forge cranks and '68-'72 340s

The early poly 318's had forged cranks and are interchangeable with the LA 318 cranks. The 273's had forged cranks until 68 or 69. I believe all of the car 318's had cast.

:sign3:

Pretty sure all of the car 318 cranks were cast. I heard some of the early truck 318 cranks were forged, but I haven't seen one so I can't say for sure.

Find one out of a 273 and it will work just fine they where all forged........

.............yes, passenger car 318s have cast and forged cranks..........its hit and miss to find a steelie.........kim,............

318 - 3 truck crank,,,is forged,,

and go to alpar.com read up on the 1967 318

Forged crank listed as used on all 1967 LA 318 engines. '68 and later all are reputed to use cast crank except for some or all medium/heavy duty truck engine and marine apps. 318 cranks are not supposed to have any rod throws drilled out like cranks intended for 340 engines and are balanced for lighter rods. With all 273, 318, and 340 engines sharing the same bearing sizes and stroke, using the same flywheel and damper mountings, and all forged and cast cranks being neutral balanced except the 72-73 cast crank 340 (because of the heavier rods), after 40 years finding either one in any compatable engine block is possible. With the certainty of forged cranks issued only in 64-67 273s, 67 318s, a smattering of truck 318s, and 68 to mid year 72 340s, and cast cranks being used in over 20 years of 318 production (even discounting Magnum versions), finding a cast crank 318 is far more probable.

I also have a 318 truck crank that needs thrust surface repair.
You may want to pass on the early 273 forged cranks because they have a smaller register for the converter snout than late 60's and later small blocks.
